Well, this is bascally a whole load of questions about carb and SPI energy's.

Got te old 1.4 carbed beast through its MOT. Only major thing I note is that you have to pump the throttle from cold to get it to start at all (is this normal?), and its a bit lumpy till warm.

Now i've checked the mixture with a colortune device (i dont know howgood this is, chris h will probably come along and slate this im sure Wink ) And all appears to be correct.

Moving on from that, what advantages would I see from converting to an SPI configuration? I assume i'd need the inlet manifold, loom and hole drilled in to the head for the CTS? Would I also need a cat and lambda?

One more question, did the 19's come with the EJ7 engine? I'm sure they did , but i've seen ph2's with carbed engines on ebay...

Thanks for any and all replies Smile

Most of the Phase 2 19 1.4's were SPI, therefore 19's did come with the E7J.

all ph2's were SPI.

they start fine from cold when set up right which yours isn't obviously. the choke pull downs probably knackered.

And of course no carb is going to give great driveability from cold its stupid to assume so.

To conver the ph1 to SPI, you need the loom, lambda, CTS hole machined, inlet man and TB, exhaust or exh manifold depending on year and so on, also a change dash may be needed and the EFI speedo cable fitted.

Theres less power and a lower rev limit but it will prob be better for your sister.

How much more power does an E6J have over an E7J?

5bhp within the normal rev band but the E6J will rev until it goes bang. Most will go to 8k - 8.5k before valve bounce though.

Check the pipes huw, mine was fecked but I binned a few hoses and bypassed the black plastic box thing to get more vacuum on the capsule.
