well if coolant is meant to be consumed at a similar rate to petrol, yes mine is spot on.

where does it go though! No leaks, no steam etc.

I keep getting large air pockets in the heater, thats the main prob.

You listened in the footwell yet to see if it makes the noise?

You bled it the way I said?

havent done it yet, has to wait till the weekend, i dont see daylight all week except for half an hour at lunch break!

i think in the past i have noticed the water noise though.

When you look into the header tank and rev the engine, is there a big disturbance (flow) in the coolant coming from the bottom of the tank?

nope.

However when you rev the engine the coolant come in from the heater matrix and swirls round. If you get a bit of a drama then you have air in there.

Should only get water disturbance from the top feed.

Only way to bleed ti properly aside from vacuum filling is pointing it up a hill with the passenger side higher.

right well on mine water seems to be flowing rapidly into the tank from the bottom when i rev it.

Know what that means. Cant see how though. Dont want to think about it.

how can you tell? Does it fill the header tank up?

or do you see air bubbles/crap getting rushed about?

well no air bubbles but theres a sort of inverse whirlpool effect in the middle of the bottom of the tank. ie water rushing in quickly as opposed to water flowing out.

If i hold the revs up then yeah, the level does rise, not very quickly mind you

do you get any water form the top hose to the tank?

Shouldn't see anything like that. You can only tell on mine when theres an airbubble.

The level will rise if the engines left to run with no cap on, it will boil eventually. level rises due to the air trapped in the system growing.

well i gotta say mine works splendidly....water never goes down...gauge is solid as a rock.

all this is since i done the headgasket mind you, as it was trickleing out the back of the head slowly.

mine is not a 16v but works quite good ,no loss of water at all.
but i cant say the heater is working as hot as it does on other cars i had before ,but then ,this car had the rustiest cooling system i have seen when i bought it and the heater matrix has probably ended its life time .

the prob isn't so much the matrix dyiogn its just it gettign full of crap and more than likely air if the systems been drained etc.

Some of them seem to self bleed no bother, others are a tad awkward about it.
