first off, a sad farewell to an old friend who suffered an un-timely death. The socket extension was a gift from rustyarchs a long time ago, and now its dead. Its been with me through thick and thin, farewell, RIP

Image

Anyway, the engine, the bracket from the manifold to the bottom of the engine is not here, it used to be but the bolt on the manifold had sheared.

no downpipe either obviously, anyway rear view

Image

wires moved out of view

Image

bolt through the Y shaped bracket to the starter 13mm

Image

Y shaped bracket and heatshield removed

Image

bracket gone

Image

upward view of the manifold, not broken studs, the clean one is the stud to hold the downpipe on the dirty one is the support bracket.

Image

undo the starter bolts and it falls out

Image

hole where starter goes

Image

close up of rear of flywheel, note its hollowed out as standard

Image

starter out, bit of a mess, note spider eggs, theres also the mum in there with them!

Image

the offside inner CV which I couldn't get off.

Image

rear mount bracket removed better access to the CV

Image

inside of the CV

Image

then the rain came and put the anchors on that!

I have struggled a couple of times to get the roll pin out, but its not shifting, I don't want to kill the CV as the shaft is in good condition.

Plus I wanted to get it dried out. Which hasn;t happened.

Depsite it beign under 2 tarps its soaked and the plug wells are full!

Its the demon engine out of the old blue hatch, quickest standard engine I have ever driven.

better on but leave it off and in the boot if you sell it! Without it you can't put the starter heatshield on!

I have finally managed to get the rool pin out, but the CV is stuck solid Mad

got the CV off! corroded to the output from the diff.

The lumps not goign into anything at the moment, its sat there for 2 years now, it can wait a bit longer. I was thinking of dropping it into the 5 but I will get another 5 if I am going to do that.

No throttle bodies as I have no money.

finally got the roll pin out

Image

the CV was stuck solid to the output spline though

Image

after a lot of banging and heaving it fianlly came off

Image

inside the CV

Image

a little smear of copper grease at the factory woudl have meant that woudl have just slid out quite nicely.

Anyway onto the top end

Image

lot of water in there, it was level with the cam carriers ars it was running out down behind the cam cover

Image

lead holder out

Image

using a bit of fuel pipe I siphoned it out. Thanks to access aroudn the engine I crouched low and when the water came it kept comign until it emptied.

I never got it clear right down to the plugs as the rain came again!

Yes I would sell it for the right money.

But tbh its in a bit of a mess! Nothing major, a good clean up and so on.

The oil pump pulley is a right rusty mess.

Rogers right, its not only a tool, it was one of my most used ones!

its gonna need re-ringed as it was rapid but burnt oil like a mofo.

used to pull up at the traffic lights and get overtaken by the blue smoke cloud.

I just remember that!

Also when it was last run from cold the throttle was stuck in fully open position I just let it run for a nbit as well liek thatI was movin git at the time.

So I suppose I wouldn't be happy selling it as it may need more done to it.

However the iffy one in the shed I will be more happy to sell. It was the one that ran and siezed, but the heads off that and its essentially a bottom end and the bores are fine.. Might need another crank though, I don't know.
