A bit of help please guys.

Bought the 16v two nights ago. When I picked it up I was warned that the starter motor was on it's way out. The previous owner has a replacment ordered and will forward it on.

I had my first experience of it not starting last night. Yesterday morning it started first time without an issue. Came out of work and it turned over but wouldn't start. Remebering something that the previous owner had said, I gave it five minutes and tried again. Turned over seven or eight times and finally started.

Got home without issue. Went back out after it had been stood for a couple of hours and had the same thing. This time it took longer to start.

Went out this morning, turned over three times and started fine.

Now I though that if it was the starter it wouldn't have turned over, or have I got that wrong? If it's not the starter what else could it be?

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for the advice matey. Would it be worth doing the starter anyway seeing as I'm getting a brand new one free of charge?

Just a quick one, could this also be caused by the SAD? Reason I ask is that it cut out on me on ethe way home. It would fire up and die again within seconds. I rang a mate who has a Clio valver to come give me a hand. He sprayed some carb cleaner into the inlet, and disconected the SAD at the inlet end and sprayed a bit in there too. After a few deaths it fired up and has been running fine since. Started first time this morning too.

you mean secondary air device?

It doesn't have one, it has an idle control valve but a sticky one won't stop it firing

Well, looks like the car is staying at work over the weekend. It wont start at all now. Crying or Very sad

Cant find anything on the gearbox matey. Will it be on the same place as the Clio 16v? A mate of a mate has one and I could probably get him to show me. Taken a few pics of under the bonet things which I am not sure what they are. If I post them when I get home would you mind giving me some idea what they are please?
