"The engine mount locations enable this engine to be bolted straight into the engine bay of any Clio or R19 & I believe the Megan is an option aswell"

Oh dear. He's even kept bidders id secret so you can't warn them.

This is interesting. Just noticed he has posted a pic of the engine 'in situ'

Image

What do you think? Just 'rested in place for the pic' or am I being harsh on the guy?

Something isn't right with that picture. Don't remember the bonnet rod thingy being bent like that, could be wrong though, but it just doesn't look right to me.

the engine has been stuck in a 19.

That is the 172 engine in there not just the cover etc.

the engine will fit, the only diff is the inlet manifold and the cams cos of the vvt.

Its the same bloody engine thats in there but played with.

the dude says he got the engine to stick in his 16V 19, if you look at the pic of the engine and box on the hoist you can see the box is old and has r19 on it.

maybe to fool you into it but thats a ren box and its old.

The front mount on the engine is from a 19 as is the alt cradle.

I think the wiring would be the biggest ballache

Would be some machine that though eh? The better phase 19 weighs less than a 172 Wink

OK I emailed the guy and to be fair he is sound. Came back with a load of info about what he had done/what was required etc and has updated his ebay auction accordingly.

Basically he said that the F4R engine will fit straight into a 19 using existing mounts, but that the vent will need modifying to get the bonnet to close.

He also said 19 box, ancillaires etc all bolt to 172 engine.

However the big problem is electrical. The 172 engine has a fly-by-wire throttle and the ECU is coded to the immobiliser and key fob. This would mean fitting the 172 pedal box as well as getting round the immobiliser problem. Big hassles here I fear and I would guess this is why he abandoned the project.

Any thoughts?

Looking at the dialogies reveals the inlet manifold is a 2 piece affair, it also seems the ports are roughly the same as the megane F7R's.

So that be an answer.

Ok but you would still need to bin ECU no?

Would an easier answer be to convert to twin DCOEs?

What would you then do about controlling ignition?

Ignition is easy. Its the imob, you'd probably have to go for 3rd party management for the easiest way round that, luminition [sp?]. Feck carbs.

throttle bodies with re-programmable ECU will be easiest/best option. think of the sound!!
