 1.8 into 2.0 does not go...

Right then, as some of you are aware i'm makin a 2.0 16v lump from an F7P head with a F3R block.

With both engines stripped to check compatibility some "annoyin" differences were found.

Pics:

Heres a 1.8 head with the F3R headgasket in place, as you can see it doesn't quite match up

Can you get a photo of the F3R block with the F7P gasket on it?

my first impressions are:

block up the two oil ways on either end....they will pool up a bit in the head but not a lot i dont think...

also on the end with the cap fil the btm with a bit of JB weld to block it off and then add a boss/tube to the cap, so that a hos can be jubilee'd to it and let it drain into the breather below...cant do that so easy the other side tho...

just a few ideas

hmmm actually i have an F7P head gasket here next to me Embarassed

it does look like JB is right, the end oilways will need to be blocked up.

Im going with JB...its got to be block off the end oilways hasnt it?

or block them off with JB weld, then drill + tap the JB weld to accept a threaded pipe, then fit a hose like JB says to drain to...i dunno...somewhere.

well the two big bosses stickig out the block are breather apparently so they should drain into the sump...."T" into them

also, the first (outer) square hole....if u imagine sticking a drill straight up it the wall u would first go thru leads to the oil way that drains out the square hole next to it....so u cud connect the two to drain out the same pipe.

who told you that you can run an F3 block?

Its the internals which you can use instead of sourcing a diesel crank as its the same, but you'll still need pistons.

to be fair Ben and I did say there may be problems.

You can block the oil ways off and drill like JB said.

Ben's suggestion of use the crank and pistons in the 1.8 is the most technically correct.

You need to get the 2l block honed and maybe bored anyway to accept the forged pistons.

But Chets is more unique. And in my opinion no less technical.

Chet u getting the crank lightened?

What exactly is the definition of 'technically correct'!

I'm gonna look into gettin the head modded, if thats a no go then i'll see about using the 1.8 block

I hadn't planned on lightenin anythin, why?

Diffence perhaps but the thing isn't gonna rev half as high as the 1.8
