I am considering doing the above conversion to my mk1 1.4RT Clio. I know a lot of people will say that it's not worth it but it's just an idea at present as I have been offered an engine at a reasonable price.

What I was wanting to know is if a 1.8RSI should pretty much drop straight into a 1.4RT clio?

What parts would be needed in doing te conversion other than the engine itself?

Can the 1.4 engine mounts be used?

I'm just looking for some general information about the conversion at the moment and if anyone was able to answer some of these questions shown above then that would be great.

Thanks.

yes it will fit into a clio 1.4 ,not sure the gearboxes are the same mind
the mounts should be the same as renault does not like using uprated stuff for powerfull engines

you will need the whole engine loom and ECU ,not sure if you would need the fuel pump

but why ??????????
the 1.8 rt is 95 bhp and a 1.4 is about 80 ,i mean have some head work done on the 1.4 and you are sorted

schakal must you?

The RSI engine will drop in, you need the loom and ECU obviously and exhaust system.

The 1.4 dog bone and gearbox mount are ok the rsi top mount is more like the 16Vs though.

Power steering pumps are in different places as well so need the lines if you want to use that.

And the RSI engine is 115bhp

Thanks Chris.

I have been offered an engine, loom, box, ECU driveshafts and basically everything under the bonnet of an RSi by someone for a fairly reasonable price. It just seems as though it would be cheaper to do that than to modifiy my 1.4RT engine with headwork etc.

Should my current suspension set up be OK? At the moment i have standard springs and shock but plan on lowering it - at the moment I only have springs and no new shocks.

I've not done an engine conversion before so it would pretty much be teaching myself as I go but I pressum this one would be a fairly easy conversion to do? Would a valver conversion be much more difficult (probably be as well buying a valver though TBH)?

I'll reply to your PM about my clio in a few minutes chris.

Thanks.

it will all go straight in and I can do the conversion for you if you want.

the heavier engine etc on the suspension will make it sit lower anyway.

How much would you charge to do the conversion Chris?

On the one hand I wouldnt mind having a go myself as I quite fancy having a go at a conversion but on the other hand it would all be done properly if you were to do it I suppose.

Would I need the whole exhaust system from an RSi or could I just get the downpie and then connect my current decat and catback exhaust from the 1.4?
