I am bored with my 1.4, but I still really like the 19's. I was browsing for insurance this morning and came across elephant.co.uk. So for me (with pass plus, which i have) to insure one it's £2200.

I can afford this now as I have just finished college. I thought i'd look at the prices of some 19 16v's and there quite cheap for what they are.

Only having looked on Autorader there were a coulple of chamade's going for like £1000-1200.

One had 70k and the ranged upto 100k on them. Is that high or low millage for one of these?

Any thing that I should look out for if I were to go and buy one?

Cheers

Any pics of it?

I am sure it's in good nick if you have owned it, why you wanna sell, because of lack of use?

How many miles it done?

My personal opnions of Renault 19 16v's is get one for as cheap as possible because that way when it breaks down (which it will) you will have cash left over to fix it.

You could pay £1000 for a low mileage minter only for clutch/gearbox/headgasket/cambelt to go on you and be left without funds in the bank to sort it. More often the not at higher mileage cars have already had one or more of the above replaced anyway.

Huw got his Red PH2 Chamade for £500, it needs a few bits and pieces doing to it but it had 87k on the clock and a years MOT, decent tyres, decent bodywork etc.

I'd consider anything upto 120k based on condition, work done and the previous owner. Theres a nice 3 door white one on ebay with a buy it now of £600 with MOT and recent head gasket, or at least there was.

OR check this - Red, MOT, TAX ok the 3 spokes are horrid but for £112.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4554313314

100k is average.

They are dirt cheap, but you have to be careful you dont get a shitter hiding problems, mistreatment and neglect. Most of them have been owned by dickheads who rag the shit out of them and dont maintain them. Service history is HIGHLY desirable on these cars, but not always essential if you know what to look for.

I got my latest chamade for £250 and apart from a few very minor things ive had to sort because a recent head gasket change was done by a monkey, its been looked after and is generally in exceptional condition. Have a look on ebay, they always go for pennies on there, but obviously you want to go and have a look first.

Coolant system corrosion is a big problem, if its looekd after and changed regularly enough then its fine, but like i said people dont look after them so if the coolant is a thick looking orange rusty coloured mess, alarm bells should be ringing. Likewise, 5/6/7 owner cars are likely to have been given a good thashing to within an inch of their life.

Youd be a muppet to pay £1200 for one, you can have both of mine for that, and ill give both of them a full service.

Youre right about Chris' chamade, it will be in fine fettle...

I have done a whole progress report on the thing!

Look in there for pics etc.

I have done a fair bit of work to the car and I have put on about 12k miles on it in the last year.

Thing is its good miles, i.e along the motorway for at least 50 miles, none of this stop start crap that fecks things.

Nearly new rad, cooling system is immaculate, swapped the heater matrix etc.

its not perfect. Fromnt of the bonnet is rusty, stone chips that have grown, but I got the car like that and I can't be arsed to sort it but the vents perfect. the drivers door and I had a dissagreement so its kinked at the front edge.

But I have had the skirts off etc as you will see int eh prog reports and theres no rust.

BTW ph1's fight the rot better than ph2's. Look at JB's post ion the knowledge base for his sill rot!

i picked mine up cheap, but had been ragged feckless, cambelt snapped, orange coolant, but only a slight bit of rust on the bonnet vent, otherwise a nice car, but im spending the time and effort to get it back to its former glory, and will be looked after!
