anyone ever replaced the front and back wings on a 19?

im thinking i might well do this now that the cars going to be back on the road, one back ones got a bodged repair and the other three are rusted to fook.
so how hard is it? im guessing the fronts just bolt on but i also guess the backs may well be more hastle than its worth.

Cheers

i too removed one last night to repair and respray as it happened.

the front wings just bolt on. you can see the top bolts if you care to open the bonnet. there's also one screw under the indicator, one behind the side of the bumper and two nuts behind the door hinge area. you'll feel/see these if you remove the plastic inner wheel arch. if you do this you'll also be able to give the thing a damn good clean, there's always a build up of crud behind.

don't know about you rear wings, mine's a hatch Very Happy

EDIT: Also helps to remove the plastic sills at this point, gives you a chance to clean and repair these too.

the front wings use studs behind the arch liner, these tend to snap off if you don;t use plenty of penetrarting fluid and wire brush it.

The rears, remove interior bumpers etc etc, drill out all the pout welds carefull aroudn the roof don't wanna crease that, will need to chuisel a lot away. repair damage to inner structure, then weld on the new rear 1/4's and spray. prob 2 k's worth of work if you farm it out

eek, 2k on a car not worth the tyres it sitting on

think i'll just do the fronts and apply some filler to the back.
see how its goes tho, might do a bare-shell rebuild at some point, do the back wings then. only 15 years till free tax as someone said. Wink

only cars for free tax are made before 1973. That law came in back in 1997, it was meant to be a rolling thing, i.e. anything that was 25 years old would be tax exempt.

Once people secured the labour goverment in they froze the date to 1973, instead of allowing to be a rolling date.

So theres no way the 19 will ever be tax exempt unless current legislation changes.

if its just the rear archs you can have new archs welded on. a bloke near me had a phase 1 chammy in tungsten, he had new rear archs welded on and sprayed for under £200 i think. didnt not look to bad either

ah, i thought it was still a rolling thing. fucking labour goverment Mad

my rear arches are rusted where they meet the side-skirts, theres practically nothing left one one side. could probably sort something out with a welder and some filler, rather than changing the whole thing.
