Right, I'm acquiring Chet's 325mm disc and 4-pot caliper setup for the 19.

If I leave it as drum and shoe at the rear will this be ample to stop the V6, or would an upgrade to discs all round be recommended?

Also, on these 4-pot calipers, do I need to use an uprated master cylinder and brake lines?

Rear brakes do so little of the braking there is not normally a great deal of point in upgrading the rears, however probably in this instance it might be worth it as the drum brakes are going to be pretty old - its a good excuse to renew.

A valver shell, however, would already have this.

I can feel what you're saying mate, but I can't get rid of Silver Streak, I have too much financial and emotional investment in that car.

The shell is nearly perfect on it with no rust whatsoever. The mechanical shortfalls I can make up for!

But look at the investment you will be putting into it with the V6 conversion - with virtually no resale / show value at all! Plus what if the V6 converson goes wrong? It will be dead!

The V6 isn't going to be cheap to run, might not even be reliable. Keep the Ph1 as your daily driver and do a V6 conversion on a valver shell (please?). I'll shutup about this now Razz

What makes you think I want to sell it? It's the fact I can't bring myself to sell it that's spurring me on to do this conversion in the first place, gives me something to do with it! Plus IF I did come to sell it post-conversion, it would be worth more than if I just sold it as it is now; pushing 100K with a head-gasket problem, would get me £100 tops, if that.

I'm not expecting it to be cheap to run. I'll be bringing out for the occassional Sunday thrash and appearances at shows/track days/club events etc. That way maintenance and insurance costs (limited mileage) can be kept to a minimum. For a daily driver I'll be looking at something a bit more modern and more reliable, perhaps a 1.6e Megane Coupe or something like that.

And yeah shut up! Razz

That sounds like a plan to me mate! Been meaning to come up and pay ye a visit, not been up for a while. I shall peruse my diary and get back to you about that!

Ben, not trying to be an arse, but I would save your money (you're going to need it!) to get a V6 engine in, running and moving the car before you need to think about to stop it!

Cool matey, will be good seeing you again! Only seen you once this year!

As for the rear beam, it needs a passenger side caliper.

I will also make a new brake line for that side.

Discs have gone to doc, well the good ones have, theres others here but the bearingsd are noisy.

Anyway you can have the rear beam for free to get it out my mothers garden. Buy the handbrake cables, caliper, pads and discs and I'll fit it at a good price.
