Hi,

One of the keys for my 1997 renault megane needs to be re-synched with the car. My partner has been to the dealer, asked for the key code, and they provided a 4-digit code that they said would de-activate the immobiliser (but would stop working after a while and that the key would need to taken to them for re-programming). I need some help here:

1. Is there a code for the immobiliser that is different to the key-code, or are they one and the same and the dealer is just trying to pull a fast one?

2. If the code that they have provided really does enable me to re-synch the key, and I attempt to do so, is there any danger that I may invalidate my one remaining good key if I can't get the other one to re-synch?

I need to know the answer to this before I return to the dealer.

Thanks

Yeah, thanks, I've read that and it's very good.

I'm trying to clarify whether or not I have the right code and, if so, whether I might wreck the one good key I have left if I can't get the other re-synched.

1. fast one

2. you need to re-synch both keys. Although re-synch one of them then see if the other works, with luck it will, if not you need to re-synch that one as well.

Hi, I'm having the same problems. Renault say they'll charge £65 just to look at the car, and £105 extra if I need new keys.

The problem is, the alarm goes off when I open the door, do I need to disconect it, in order to put the code in.

Another thing, i didn't understand about the code. If you find the code inside of the key. Why do you need to ask renault for the code? Is the key code used to obtain another code which is used to re-synch the keys?

Cheers for your time.

1, it is the same code!!

2, when u enter the code and try to re-sync it make sure u do both at same time!

i presume its the megane with the immob light in top/centre of instrument panel, if so do the following

1, make sure immob light is flashing and not on permantly
2, turn ignition on
3, enter the code by pressing the lock button (on dash) and counting the flashs ie 2, then let go and hold to do next number ie 4 then let go again and do same for last 2 digits ie (if code is 2468)
after u enter the last digit let go of button and the light should stay on for around 3 seconds, if it flashs its the wrong code, if not its right
4,turn ignition off and hold lock button down untill locks bounce
5, press each plip 3 times and they should re-sync, sometimes takes a few attempts though not always 3 press's of each button, then try both keys operate locking by remote and check they start car.

u may alreayd know this if so ignore that^
