When I was doing the 21Turbo/TXi conversion I asked K-tec if they would sell the carriers seperately so I could use the 16v calipers but they just said "no" :p

if your using stadard 16v carriers , you wil have to get your own made as the ktec one caters for a smaller carrier

naples what are you talking about?

You make daft statement and back them up with nothing.

Theres 3 girling/lucas carriers in total fitted to cars of this era

238 12mm solid disc.
238 22mm vented
259 22mm vented

thats it, the narrower one will not accept a disc wider than about 14mm as it will be binding.

well, i bought a 2nd hand big disc kit , and tried to use the 16 v carriers but the pad was only half on the disc , hence why you couldnt just use a ktec spacer with 16v calipers and 21 TXi discs .

so i would say they are using ktec use a 238 mm 22mm carrier for those discs, i cant see them making there own tbh

sorry if i seem a bit random but heads in mess atm, (woman Rolling Eyes)lol

the original disc on the car are 259mm.

so does this mean tht if i wanted to can i use the 21 txi discs , my 16v calipers and then make a spacer plate up.

was starting to get a bit confused lol

Yeah iirc the TXi discs are 21.5mm in width. You will need the bracket to accomodate for the extra height the bigger disc will create.

The setup is awsome but i used the 21turbo calipers which i'm sure are much bigger than the 16v - can anyone confirm that? I'm not sure you will see improved braking with the 16v calipers on the bigger disc as the stopping contact area wouldn't change.

pistons are bigger on the 21T calipers, and the pads have a chunk more area as well.

the braking effort will be bigger with bigger disc so they should be better for the reason chet siad.

by the sounds of thing 21 turbo calipers would be better to use than the 16v ones. but the likelyhood of me finding any is very low unless any one knows of any one breaking a 21turbo. if using the 21t calipers would i need the carriers as well?

where can i get exchange 21turbo caliper from, dont suppose you know how much?

presumably i will then have to get the carriers separately. do the 21t carriers bolt on to the 16v hubs. probably not cos that would b to easy lol.

so if i manage to get hold of 21t calipers, 21t carriers, txi discs, do i still have to make up a spacer. (think i do?) that should work a treat

Yes, of course you need the spacer to fit the 21T carrier to the 16v hub, what do you think it’s for?

www.biggred.co.uk do callipers. Price for a pair exchange £72 exchange including vat, the returnable surcharge is £20 per pair. Postage £8.90 per pair.
