Guys,

I have just taken my 19 16v all the way from Kent to Somerset and return today with no hiccups at all, in fact she drove like a dream, right up until 2 miles from home when the little red battery light came on on the dash. Bugger. If I rev past the 5,000 rpm mark its goes out and anything below that it comes on again?

What have I done,... alternator??

Just before it happened I hit a speed bump (one of the thin rudde strips that really hurt), could that have knocked a cable and if so can someone point me in the direction of what cable it could be??

Thanks loads in advance, I now gotta unpack!!!

Haynes mannual at the ready...

the earth wire may have broken or the pos wire corroded, both common faults.

but the alt may be iffy. my chamades one will light up with the heater fan and main beam on unless you go over the ton.

moving to somerset then? lol but the break could be anywhere inbetween the alternator and the battery.

the avatar was my old one before charlotte church, but I have to say I prefer this one.

its at the alternator end they tend to snap, I have had to fit a few new ring terminals on to them.

I was forced to use thw car (due to try and fix it this weekend) and when I sarted her up expecting my little light friend to be eluminated it stayed out. I thought the car had fixed itself but 20 mins in it lit up again same as before, does this info shed anymore light on to what it could be???

I will test the voltage to see if the alt is putting in what it should, could it be a slack belt??? Odd it did not flick on for a while? Confused
