Did any of the valvers have air con? If so, does anyone (chrish!) know which wire to the engine management ECU changes state when you put the air conditioning on? Usually the cars idle speed rises to account for the extra load - much like the electric power steering pump does. Failing this, could I use the power steering pump cable (currently disconnected) - and if so, do I just take it to +12v high?

Many thanks in advance
Hope your all well

Matt.

yes they came with it and from what I have seen the PS pump switch is used in the aircon cars as thats where the ac pump is!

The ps switch was only used in ph1's anyway, some ph2's have the plug but no switch. Use that for AC.

Cheers chris,

Do you know what happens with the plug, does it go to +12 or gnd under load? And what pin is it on the ECU?

Many thanks

Sorry to interject here, but do any non-AC 19s have an electric PS pump?

newer meganes and clios come with em. As do saxos etc.

21 dunno, the bays pretty big even in the short wheelbase 1.7's same for lagunas.

Clio 16V's and williams never had it as an option.

Theres 2 types, the pump with hydraulic lines and the other where its just a motor acting on the steering column.

PS is nice but tbh if the trackings right, and you use the front strut holes swapping to a manual set up is easy enough and the steering isn't that heavy.

I personaly in my old age would keep the ps stiock unleess I was racing the car.

Chris,

Many thanks for your help/advice.

So on a clio there is an electric motor which is pumping the power steering fluid, which in fact works exactly the same way as a belt driven one, only its running off the electric?

I ask because I wish to fit air con, and plan on swapping out the power steering pump which is currently belt driven with the air con pump. And then fit an electric power steering pump somewhere in the growing smaller all the time engine bay!

the new shape clios have the seperate pump, but so do the saxos etc.

Try german/french e-bay for a 19 leccy pump though!
