Hey guys newbie here,

I have a Renault 19 16v 1994 M

Woke up this morning to find to find a constant one toned high pitched noise coming from my car, which was the alarm i went out to unlock the and disable the alarm and unlock the car with the alarm fob but nothing happened, tried unlocking the car with the central locking button on the key but again nothing happened. So unlocked the door by putting the key in the lock thinking the alarm is gonna start sounding when i open the door cos i haven't disabled the alarm and immobiliser but it didn't!! Got the bonnet open and switched off the alarm and the high pitched noise stops. Still cant unlock the car with the button on the key so im thinking the batteries have gone in the key a bit of a stab in the dark, but could this have anything to do with it?

Thanks in advanced guys any help will be much appreciated.

No the car doesn't start cos the imobilliser won't disarm along with the alarm.

make sure the car batt is charged up

then put everything back to how it was (turn alarm key etc:)

then close all doors boot and bonnet, with plip lock doors then un lock

jump in and start

mine did it when the batt went flat i took a day 2 sort...

I'm not sure what the problem is, but it doesn't sound like the key to me...

Ignore that last post from me the central locking would work if the battery has drained, do the batteries on these cars not last as long as other batteries cos i only had a new battery 18 months ago or so.

no, of course the central locking wouldn't work if the battery was dead Confused

19s dont 'consume' batteries any more than any other car... just like any other car if you leave the lights on or something overnight the battery will be drained... although it's unlikely that you'd do that, because of the buzzer thing.

Also if your earthing is poor the battery can be drained.

Is it possible to turn the alarm off so you just use the button on the car key to lock and unlock the car. Because when you turn the alarm off am i right in thinking the immobiliser switches off aswell, so when the alarm is turned off you cannot start the car?

nope the alarm and immobiliser are seperate, and on your M reg the immobiliser is built into the ECU.

lol, i'm just baffled why the battery would just randomly drain like that? Could it be that i never really give the car a good run i dont live to far away from where i work and the car doesnt get a chance to get going really. I'm almost certain that i never left anything on cos i never drove it yesterday and i only cleaned it on monday.
