Alternator packed in

Past few days the battery light has been flicking on and off, then it stayed on, and now my battery is flat.

Few tests with a multimeter revealed that the alternator is dead, putting out a grand total of 5v.
Got pissed off and gave it a whack . . . it worked again . . . . for about a minute.

Going to change the alternator rather than remove the bonnet and rad to find it's not repairable and be left with my car in bits waiting on parts.

Will a 19 16v alternator fit my clio????

If it will, has anyone got a spare one they can sell to me sharpish?
Need my car back on the road by friday.

yep, 19 16v alternator is the same, as is the alt on various other models

Make sure no wires are broken.

There may be something broken inside the alternator, but i can't tell without taking the rad out.

The wires are fine.

The plug and socket are fine.

I could get the alternator to work by wedging a screwdriver behing the black cover on the back but as soon as i release it it goes off again. Tried wedging a small washer in there just to get me to work and back for a couple of days but it soon stopped working like this aswell, so now it has completely packed in.

It's a long shot and probably a stupid question . . . but . . .

Can an alternator off a 1.2 energy be made to fit??
