still could not solve the electrical problems on the chammy Sad bought myself a circuit tester today and spent 3 hours checking various connections

so far non working electricals are
1-trip computer (lights up when he igniton is turned on with no display on the screen and the light goes down when the headlights are turned on )

2-digital clock , now this is well weird . i check the contacts on the plug with the circuit tester ,one minute there is current in all 4 and next minute there is no current in any and the next minute there is curent in only one .
Image

3-electric mirrors , checked the wiring plug connecting to the control switch with circuit tester again , one minute the connectors are live next minute all dead - ONE QUESTION HERE ,are the leccy mirrors work regardless of ignition being on or off as it does on my ph2 ???

4-interior and map reading lights , tested again ,one out of 3 connectors seem to be live but not lighting the bulbs even though they are not blown

5- central locking from the remote , central locking from the switch inside the car works as well as using the key from the drivers side ,but however when i try the remote there is no response . batteries in the remote controller has been changed ,aerial assembly cleaned but no luck , after a test with circuit tester ,connectors are live one minute and not after .FEELS LIKE SOMETHING IS SUCKING ELECTRICITY IN THIS CAR

now i also checked all the fuses with circuit tester (ignition on ,headlights etc on) .most fuses are live apart from the 2 playing up all the time . now this looks like the problem
Image
the fuse in red circle according to users manual and haynes is for the "radio and interior lights"
and the one in yellow circle is for "clock/trip comp/alarm/rear view mirrors"

these 2 fuses seem to play up all the time ,tested them with ignition on/off ,lights on and off etc many times .one minute the fuse is live ,the next minute its dead . what the hell is going on here ,any ideas please?

i also went through haynes and found out that there is a relay for the trip computer ,located the relay but did not touch it yet . as relays are controlling a few leccy items at a time ,i thought a dodgy relay might be causing the problems
Question Question Question

and here are some pictures of the main and auxilary fuse boxes ,thought it might give some inspiration .

i tested the map reading light unit on my other car ,it works as it should . that makes me think the trip comp, digi clock and all the rest are working fine but does not on the chammy Sad
anyone have any idea about the reason ???????

allright as nobody seems to be good with electrics here ,i decided to stress the box and have a go at the wiring diagrams in haynes .

damm right i found something , checked 4 different wiring diagrams related to the electrical stuff that are not working on my chammy at the moment . finally i found out that a red wire (according to haynes) coming from the battery and feeding a few fuses is the source of the problem .now all i got to do is to trace this ferker from the rear of the fuse to the battery and see where it is broken Wink

dash comes out again ,i aint happy at all Crying or Very sad

haynes wiring diagrams are very wrong.

I have yet to actually find a 19 wheres its wired like it says in there.

Anyway.

1. Thats how the displays meant to go light up then dim with the lights. Make sure the green connector is pushed home fully and the small pins are not bent.

2. 2 pins will have a permanent pos and earth, thats to keep the time. The other 2 will have juice when the keys turned to light the display.

3. mirrors work all the time key on or off.

4. one will be live as you can turn the light on regardless if the keys in or not. The other only comes live when the doors opened.

5. hmm

The scotchlock on the fusebox is for the immob led. but theres no wire from the back of it!!!! you got a loose wire dangling?

The tape etc round the fuel pump relays looks very wrong and doesn't appear to actually splic ein, take the tape off and take a pic.

i dont know how wrong the diagrams are in haynes but i tried various combinations using a higlighter to follow the current from the battery to the electrical devices. and i came to a conclusion that "rg74" a red wire from the battery feeding both these fuses might be broken .

i was gonna stick a long wire from the battery (+) to the back of one of them fuses and see if anything works before i go further stripping the dash to chase the broken wire(rg74) WHAT DO YOU RECKON ? GOOD IDEA ?

9 gallons! thats 2 gallons short of a full tank!

well trace the wire and see if you can find a poor connection etc somewhere.

dont think that can be right chris ,i remember putting 15-20 litres in there while i went to pick it up from 40-50 miles away and idled it a few times since brought back home . i was expecting the fuel to run out soon to be honest

tracing the wire means taking the dash out (even partially) ,what do you think if i just install a direct feed from the battery to the back of the fuse ???? would it cause any probs ????

cool but what do you think of the direct feed idea ????
i managed to run it behind the dash and through the hole(where all the rest of the wiring goes) in the bulk head . something like this

you will have to isolate the old wire then as as its an intermittant contact and it will send spikes when it contacts again eventually buggering something up.
