Bloody Starter (again!)

Had a go at getting me starter out yesterday. Got the starter-gearbox housing bolts out fine. Got the top bolt out from the starter - block bracket (bolt 3 in the dialogys 'starting and charging page') however it still wont come loose.
In dialogys it shows bolt 6 which is lower down, however i cant see this bolt, let alone get a spanner on it. Anyone got any ideas?

One more thing, the TD starter im gonna use is thinner and longer than the 16v one, so i'm guesing i'll have to do without the bracket?

Why can't things on these cars be simple? Sad

My sisters 205 has the starter at the front of the engine ! Shocked

the lower one is best accessed from underneath. I usually leave the brackets off if I am lazy, allows a 10 min starter change next time.

Rear brackets are not essential.

Fords have the starter at the front to.

Bloody fiddly job. I'm sure the cars lost half its weight in brackets for the starter that are no longer needed. The diesel starter don't half turn the engine over quickly Razz

While im here....how 'vital' is the starter heatshield?

not that vital, I know plenty that have covered lots of miles without one.
