14 years is a long time to keep a car and it IS the car I used to walk by going to college.

Gonna pop round to his gaff and see if he has any pics/history he wouldn't mind giving me!

They reckon I should send a letter instead of going to his door, what you lot reckon?

I wonder if he will be receptive to my letter.

i was talking to simon about it, he rang the previous owner of the capucinno and the guy got abusive etc!

Not entirely sure what to write!

What about sending a letter and telling him that you want to keep the history of the car as complete as you can as 1 owner over 14yrs is quite rare, then drop the 'what stuff you got' question?

I would also drop a letter in by hand with your phone number on it.

Also tell him about this site, and how the members all love retro renaults and the 19's

mention you have 20 plus ppl on the site going nuts cos they want to know all about the car that he used to own.
offer to take the car round there and get his pic with it.
Tell him all about the work you do with renaults etc.

get him interested in providing you with all he can about the car because its not just for you but for a group of ppl genuinely interested in the car Very Happy

heres the letter I have written, not posted so I can change it if needs be.

Dear Mr Sharp.

Last year I rescued Renault 19 16V registration number J****S from the scrap yard. I recognised the car as I used to walk past it on my way to Cardonald College. I saw it in the scrappy and as I like to rescue these cars and return them to road use (I currently have 3 including your old one) I bought it and dragged it home.

I applied for the V5 this year and it confirmed it’s the car that I used to walk past, also it showed you were the cars sole owner which is very special as these cars tend to pass through a lot of hands and tend to be abused.

The V5 had your address on it and I thought I would send you this letter to see if there was any chance you have some of the cars history that you would be interested in either giving or selling to me. I hope you don’t mind me sending this as it is a bit cheeky.

I am technical moderator of a Renault forum called www.retro-renault.com and the rest of the guys on there are interested to see if you reply to me.

Any information you wish to give me would be gratefully received. If you wish to come and see the car and my other cars feels free to drop me a line on 0778*******.

My address is ********, Glasgow, G*****

Regards,

Christopher Hall

edited to remove my numner and address etc

what do you all think?
