the pics don't work for me.

But no sill rust will pass any mot unless you buy it over the net!

the speedo is a mechanical device, theres no electrics involved. The cable might just need pushed fully home.

the ticking may just be a tappet, if it goes away when warm don't worry to much. Chaneg the oil a few times and it should help settle it.

Not possible at all to buy new sills then? Will it have to be welded?

If your handy you could always cut one from another clio at the scrappy. Would have to be bad before this option but always an option.

Ok, ive had a better look at it today.

When turning the wheel while stationary, the suspension cups? (i think, the things you attach a strut brace too), turn and move about, are they suposed to do this? One is slightly raised aswell, and the power steering makes a heck of racket (more than if you normally stick it on full lock), it turns fine but it doesnt sound health at all, ill try and get a sound clip later.

I have just taken the dash apart aswell to look at the speedo problem. The cable turns fine when driving, so must be a dial problem? Im just putting the dash back together now to see if the speedo has jumped into life.

Cheers/

Change the PS fluid, I use Slick 50 in mine and it is dead quiet now.

With the windscreen, try and get it done though your insurance (I assume you have some), excess is usually about £50-60.

The suspension cups will move around with the steering, this is fine, but if one is more raised than the other, the rubber donut underneath the suspension tower at the top of the strut may be knackered, easy job and parts are cheap. BTW, the strut brace won't attach to the cups, but to the towers themselves.

Rust will have to be fully cut out and new metal welded in, or it will come back and will come back very quickly.

Also, take the cards off by the rear seats, as you can get some bad rust around the seals on the rear windows.

Ok just taken a trip to the bloke who does body work on cars.

He has said:

£30 x 2 for NEW side sills.

£100 x 2 to fit and spray them e.t.c

so £260, does this sound reasonable? He is very good at doing bodywork e.t.c

Also i told him they aparently dont make side sills anymore for these Clios (info from the posts above), he looked at his books and he said they were listed Question

Where can i lay my hands on Slick 50 PS fluid? Cant find any in the UK? No im not currently insured on the car at this minute thats being sorted out in the new year for finanacial reasons.

There is a clio being broken on eBay, if the windscreen is in good condition could i not just use that one instead of having a new one? I know someone that could fit it for me.

The car is hopefully being looked at in a couple of hours for the mechanical side of things.

OH and the speedo seems to be playing ball now, dash is back together and the speedo has worked since so i guess thats all good now.

Thanks.

They may be in his books, but im almost certain they arent produced anymore.

£260 is reasonable, but being metallic, it'll be a hard match, so you may always notice the different colours.

Snap his arm off.

Metallic only a real issue on two level panels side by side that reflect the light in the same way eg a door against a rear quarter.

OK doke,

Ill get him to ring up to make sure they do sell em still, but he was pretty confdent.

Being the side sills i dont really mind if they dont match perfectly. because they are almost under the car.

But he has had to do a massive panel on my mates ford probes which is a metalic blue and he has done it really well, so i do have high hopes.

Thanks

Sometimes you can spray metallic and have a perfect looking colour match. The sod with it though is that sometimes a sprayed panel can look a totally different shade under artificial street lighting.

OK,

ive taken it to my friends grandad (the mechanic), and we've put it over a pit and had a good look at it.

Noticed:

1) The side sill on the passenger side is pretty much rotten, and the driver side isnt that great but its not as bad. Im hoping they can be replaced. The rust hasnt spread anywhere else (i.e to other body parts).

2) Small hole in the midbox of the exhaust, patched up with a bit of "Firegum" Hopefully sort that for a while.

3) The tyres will need replacing, they are a bit bald on the inside, and there is a cut in one of them.

4) The tracking is out by about an inch. (But can be sorted while new tyres are fitted)

5) The suspension on the drivers side is knackered, the rubber thing is too high which suggests something underneath it has gone bust or worn out.

Il will be taking the drivers side suspension/wheel apart to have a proper look tommorow afternoon. Does anyone know what the part that is worn/gone underneath is called? Can it be bought from GSF?

Apart from that the underside of the car isnt that bad at all.

Ill post tommorow evening with an update.

The part you want is the rubber donut. This sits directly under the suspension tower at the top of the strut.

You can get it from GSF, part number R45714, £8.50 + vat.

FYI, the bearing for the suspension is R45712, £6.50 + vat.

Depends, the bearings might be alright.

When I replaced my suspension, I did get both parts, but that was a personal choice.

Does the car sit level?

Are the shocks leaking at all?

Not sure mate, dont think their are any leaks. The car is with the mechanic (family friend), so i couldnt tell you.

OK we managed to take the rubber thing of the suspension towers. Took us flipping 45 minutes to find spanner and allen key that fit it, not a regular size?

Anyway we took it off and jaked the car up, not much to report really, there was bits of rubber underneath (underneath the lip of the suspension tower hole). But where you can clearly see there is only metal.

Also there was like a small washer type thing, but it was like only 1/2 there?

Anyway i guess i need a new rubber part so im going to order one.

Is the same part sold on Euro Car Parts? GSF is being gay and rejecting my card.

Thanks.
