OK sorted that out it winging its way to me.

Next thing i want to sort out is the lights behind the dash (rev counter, petrol gauge, and engine temp gauge).

GSF Parts:

B95938 - BULB 12V 5W FESTOON
R95910 - BULB 12V 2W 9MM CAP

Which one do i need, i noticed their are 2 sizes of bulbs behind the dash (smaller ones on the petrol gauges, larger ones on speedo and rev counter), i think i need both types, do either of those packs provide both types of the bulb?

Thanks.

Ill have to put it on hold for the moment, its snowing Razz .

Also another thing, the temperature gauge on the dash (outside temp), actually works.

BUT is shows the wrong temperature, today is says -25 degrees, on a warmer day it says about -5 dedgrees.

I think its reading in farenheit maybe? not sure, can i cahnge this to degrees celcius? thanks. (or does it sound broke anyway for reporting wrong temperatures). It does change its reading while driving so i guess it must still be connected up right e.t.c

Also here are some pictures of the suspension towers.

The first 2 pics are of the driver side one, it has been "loosened" and isnt normally THAT high, however it is probably twice the height of the passenger side.

This is the "normal" passenger side one:

Is there anything you guys can tell me about it? The rubber donut is still in the post so havent had a chance to fit it yet.

Thanks.

I think the wheels were on full lock when i took the pic.

What i do notice is...

WHen turning the wheel from full lock to full lock i can hear from inside what a kind of "bdoing" sorta noise (imagine a spring being coiled up and then slipping). its happens a couple of times from lock to lock.

It doesnt seem to affect the steering in any way, its not hard to turn the wheel while driving on standing still.

OK here is a link to a couple of videos to help you guys aid me.

If you listen you can hear clicks and almost grinding noises as i turn the wheel. Im off to buy a can of WD-40 and drench the hole underneath with it to see if it loosens something (hey anythings worth a shot)

The files are quite large.

OK had another butchers today.

Deicded to sort out the dash lights and the heating in the car.

Dashboard lights accumulated to £7, guess you gotta pay a premium when you buy from little back street town shops. But at least evrything is illuminated now.

Next the heating. Followed the haynes. Removes window wipers, the plastic bonet thing (has washer jets).

Removed the jack, and moved the ECU onto the engine just for the time being. Then removed the window wiper motor.

Now considering ive never actually worked on a car before i was pretty happy with my progress.

Right undid the heater assembly, and then unplugged it....

The plug and rehostat socket where corroded and bits had fallen away, it was in a shocking state. After establishing the problem it was time to take a trip to renault.

I got a new rehostat, plug and 5 terminal pins (only need 4) for the socket for £36.

Looking at the plug coming off the loom it was in a prerry shocking state, there was some heat shrink on the cable to keep it watertight i guess, after cutting this off some of the cable was bare and in bad condition, so i snipped the whole plug off and started fresh.

Stripped the 4 wires, attempted to put the terminal bits on it (sort of have to insert the wire and crimp it), made a pretty average job of it because i didnt have a proper crimping tool.

Stug them in the plug attached the plug to the new rheostat, turn the ignition on, flip the fan onto setting 3........NOTHING Embarassed

Ok at this point i gussed it was something ive done wrong so i pushes all the wires out of the plug and directly put the terminal pins/clips onto the rheostat pins.

Turn ignition, put fan on......BINGO it span into life. So basically i didnt wire the plug up very well, i shoved the terminal clips into the plug as hard as i could, but i somehow felt i needed a special tool?

Anyway ill post back progress tommorow as ive got another day to work on it tommorow. I also bought some slick 50 power steering fluid which i will put in tommorow aswell hopefully.

Depends, the bearings might be alright.

When I replaced my suspension, I did get both parts, but that was a personal choice.

&*^%£&*^ DOH!!!

Should have listened to you, ive had the front strut off today, and the friggin bearings are knackered, its cracks and jams when you turn it and bits of the bearing case fall out!

Renault garage is closed, so cant get any parts until tuesday, well thats a bugger Evil or Very Mad

It would also explain why the power steering sounds so bad sometimes, the bearings jam up and it wont turn meaning its fighting against the rubber mounts / spring making the spring "bdoing" noise.

After the post above, i thought i may aswell have a crack at changing the oil and filter.

Got the oil out fine and it didnt really look that bad tbh, not really any bits on it, just dark liquid (not sludge).

So i thought nothing of it and carried on with the oil filter and what a *&^%^%$ ^&*% that is!!!

I tried so many angles to get it, wrapping a chain around it and try to undo it with a ratchet nothing will budge it. It almost looks rusted and seized onto the engine.. nothing will get the bloody thing of, and renault couldnt have put it in a worse place is they had have tried.

After about an hour trying to get of i left the little %^&* and gave up. Any tips for getting it off?

Bought some filter pliers from halfords, fu^&&* £9!, got them back and they were just as crap as every other tool we had tried Crying or Very sad

So i smashed it with a screwdriver, took about 2 - 3 hours to do (no joke), little by litte, then its came off, lovely jubbly i thought. Until the halfords replacement filter i bought wont f&*^$%& fit because its too long! The renault filter was quite small, the halfords was same size but much taller wand it wouldnt fit between the frame of the car and the sump Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Quick trip down to a local shop and bought another smaller one. This one worked finally HOORAY!

Filled her with oil, what a beauty she now sounds a LOT better, the noisy tappets and ticky noises are gone, the engine just purrs away Very Happy

Just got to wait for the suspension kit to come through (bloody renault).
