I heard that the cable entering the box can wear as it is a square drive. Pull the cable out and shim it with something to take up any lash.

I have not done this, its just what I have heard.

is it usually the speedo or the box end of the cable that causes the wobble?

also, is the cable in 2 pieces (one inside, one in engine compartment)? it sort of looks like it's joined where it passes through the torpedo!?!?

car is R19 16V ph2, btw..

think u misunderstood me there, m8.. what i meant to ask was which end of the cable normally is the cause of wobble.. speedo end or box end?

speedo end looked ok last time i had it off (was wobbling before that), and box end i never managed to get unclipped..

its the full cable, its metal and shapes itself to the shape of the outer when the car sits idle

I had a 'wobble' on mine when i changed over the digi dash on my 19, took the speedo out again and found that even thou the clip was on properly, the auctual drive part of the cable was not all the way in, so i simply pushed it home and now i have no 'wobble' Smile

hmm... ok.... i just seem to recall something like the square at the end of the cable being worn (talk about star shaped ends etc)..

ill try to pull it off the speedo and see if i can refit it better.. the previous owner exchanged the clock backs to white... wonder if it happened there even though i had the whole thing out after that...
