I have a clio 16v as some of you are aware.

Bought a new brake bias valve for it, as the current one was rusted so bad it broke! Shocked

Didnt fancy mucking about in the cold bleeding the brakes after doing it, so took it to a local garage. Job done!

Well, im not sure! Having read Chris_H's guide in the tech section, i need to have a few things explained to me...before i go back to the garage and shout at them! Rolling Eyes

I know/understand that when the car is level the valve should be open(?) allowing FULL rear braking force from those pathetic rear brakes. When in this position, the lever on the valve will be closed down hard against the diaphram thingy?

When the front of the car dips under braking, shifting the weight forward, the rear of the car lifts, meaning its more likely to lock a rear wheel. In this situation the valve is closed(?) and the valve lever is now slightly open(?)

Is this correct? The valve lever should move over its entire travel?

The way mine is setup is with the lever being pulled shut (lots of tension) when level, and less tension when rear rises up! This allows little movement in the valve as its built in spring is always pulling the lever shut!

The lever spring bitty that is connected to the rear axle should both push and pull the valve during operation?

This is a pic of it. I think its been setup wrongly, but need someone to verify this, and give me a detailed explaination of how it should work!

Cheers,
Cool

valve should be open which means the arm hard against the thing when level and thge arm move out when the rear end starts to lift.

it won't push, only pull.

ok thanks chris!

like i thought!

It is hard up against the thing when level, but when jacked up it goes all loose. It dosent swing back out because of the spring on the valve acting to keep the lever on the valve hard in.

I cant see how any movement happens, becuase when level it is hard in against the thing on the valve. Fine!

But when wheels are raised slightly, the linkage looses its tension, but the valve arm does not move becuase the spring holds it in. Confused

thats normal.

I don't see the problem.

if you must know how it works jack it up then get someone to press the brake and all will become clear.
