laguna head gasket went last night.

I had suspected there may be gasket issues for a while but I got the phone call from my sister that the car was on 'fire' and it won't do anything.

Visions of my muppet sister and that burning golf came to mind so I said phone the police.

Anyway so Amber and I headed along the motorway to where she was, well headed along the motorway and into a carpark from where I could jump the fence and get up there.

Asked where the police where etc. 'they ain't coming', despite the fact he car may have been on fire they said "phone a relative unless you want to spend several hundred pounds" Rolling Eyes

So I get there, no fire, had a look and there was no water.

I said what was the temp gauge doing? The answer was the usual I don't know.

So after getting my mum to pick up bottled water on the way and her being a retard and stopping on the outside lane of the other carriageway to hand it over (yes on the M8, no I don't know how she's survived this long or bred me either) I topped the coolant up.

I should also mention the road work guys where there, did they lend a hand? nope. Did they have any water I could use? nope. Are they total arseholes? Yep.

Anyway topped it up and it was cool enough to drive. Eventually it started then I ragged it off, zipping out between road cones at 60 is a skill and I never hit one!

Anyway eventually wee got it home after 8 litres of evian went threough it.

Its a good fail, if there is such a thing. It appears to have gone between a water way and number 2.

Pulled the plugs you see, 2 had water on it and ther other 3 looked fine.

Also the oil is still clean.

So shes away in my 19 16V, she better not break it.

So headgasket to do/get started today.

well what a fun days its been heads off.

Gaskets perfect.

heads bannaned.

Cause the leaky stat housing I told her we need to sort out months ago and she kept putting it off.

So somethign thats about a tenner to sort has now escalated into a 36quid head gasket set, a bent head and she still needs to sort the original problem.

well head rebuild time. Now I have the head off, the ports are horrific, I can port, I may be getting the car soonish, how could I NOT do some porting!?!

before, note large step due to factory machining, the short turn radiuas is crap as well but the phoen won't let me get that

Image

after, note its so smooth now, like it should be, constant radius instead of bg steps, al;so note head face cleaner to.

Image

Thats all I'm doing, I can;t be arsed doingh a full on porting job because of the time involved, this is just the bowl area I am doing, and I am only doing the inlets, the exhausts are also crap but I can't be arsed with them cos that means cleaning it all which is a pain in the arse.

Besides, the work I am doing is about 5 or so horses due to the sheer crapiness of it. Also the valves seats ain;t to hot but they will seal perfectly when I am done.

Assumign the heads not to ferked it should be a good bit faster!

as always the weathers playing up.

I am slightly wet but the heads back on the car, the timing belt inner cover and idler are secured, the exhaust manifold bracket is attached to the block but nopt fullytightened and some vacuum hoses are connected back up.

The rains really coming down and put a stop to the progress.

If it was sunny then another hour or so and we would be motoring!

always the way....always.

that is if u dont have cover...if u got a garage to work in it would never rain....in fact the only reason we get rain in this country is because someone somewhere is always trying to do something outdoors...

Let me get this straight..It broke yesterday and she is bitching because you havent finished the head gasket change yet? Never mind the fact its a job that would take most of us a few days! Cheeky bloody woman!

it was wednesday.

Its done now.

Header tanks split so lucky i ran it and waited till pressure built up.

The lower exhaust stud has still to go in.

I took it round the block, slow as feck, smokes a fair bit when you rev it to.

My diagnosis shes fecked it proper.
