 Cambelt and tensioners

How much where from, and what should i be looking at labour wise too. Is it worth replacing the water pump at the same time or is this not necessary?

So far had a quote for £277 from a local garage including cambelt and tensioner kit. Labour itself workks aout around £160 with them.

Anyone got kits lying around cheaper?

Worth buying a performance cambelt?

pump not necessary and can be changed later as its nothing to do with the cambelt.

Fair price, can be had cheaper especially by someone on the forum.

GSF sell the kits for about 70 quid.

A performance cambelt is the same as a stock cambelt.

I'm not sure what its like on a 19, but on my 440 (with the 19 valver engine in) its a pain in the ass to do a cambelt; engine is too close to the wing (so you have to lift the engine out of the car). I guess it depends on where Renault positioned the engine in the bay, there is very little clearance on mine. If you can get the covers of easily enough (i'm doing this from memory so sorry if there are mistakes), the jobs not too bad, i always find it easier to set the engine to TDC (Top dead centre - number 1 piston, gear box end, on the top of its travel and the two camshaft lobes pointing towards each other), put the locking bar in the back of the engine so it does not move, slacken off the top tensioner and pull the belt off the cam shaft pulleys at the top, then remove from the oil pump and crank pulley at the bottom. Shove on the new belt, its usually a bit tight to get on but with patience you can, making sure that the cam shaft pulleys timing marks line up with the ones on the cover. Tighten up the tensioner, put the aux belt back on, covers back on, job done. Or you could just take it to a garage!

do belt and tensioners!!

nasty things can happen if u dont do the tensioners . .

thats mine when the idle pully failed, causing the belt to shred, the tensioner pully to overheat and seize and for the belt to jump and knock the timing out casuing 4 bent valves

i was lucky when mine went i still managed to drive abot a mile to stop in the nearest garage without mistiming Very Happy

and its idleR pulley
