 cambelt reuse?

Just taken the head off the 16v, just wondering if I should re use the cambelt? Its been on there since about novermber and covered about 350 miles at most...

wouldn't risk it personally just in case as it'a an expensive job if goes as you know mate Smile

i would use it ,as long as there is no damage on it which there should not .

why should you have a bigger risk than using a brand new one ??

so by that logic, i could fit a brand new belt to my car, run it for a mile, take it off, put it back on again, run it for another mile, take it off, put it back on, another mile etc etc... hundreds of times and it would be no worse than a brand new one really?

Until about the 50,000 mile you do, but by then i think you would be pretty pissed at having to cahnge the belt for the 50,000 time as well! Very Happy

i did not say that ,i am only talking about huws 350miles used cam belt here assuming that its in good condition after a visual check .

why would you do something silly like that anyway Laughing

Cam belt should be fine to use again, just check for any wear, but at 350 miles should be OK

official answer is no. When you tension the belt you put preload on it, its a composite belt, when the tension goes and you remove it then the properties are lost, so it may fail at any time after that.

I say re-use it though.

Ah, so most of you reckon it'l be safe enough ie, its not gonna snap anytime soon (or more so than a new belt) Very Happy
