Sorry if this has already been asked but I have done a search and couldn't find anything. Just wanted to know if having the standard cams re-profiled is a good idea, or is it completely shit and a bit like using second hand toilet paper, and should just get new fresh cams? Or will I in-effect end up with exactly the same quality of product?

I'm only asking cuz while lookin for cams & stuff earlier, I found a place that wants £612 for brand new cams, followers, timing disc & cam lube......but they only want £347 if they re-profile your existing cams rather than giving you new ones. Seems like a bloody good saving if they're gonna be as good like.

reprofiling cams means they are stuck with whats there.

The base circle etc is how its meant to be as is the duration and lift.

So to alter it on an existing cam they have to remove metal from the bas circle and also the ramp duration is shortened.

This basically means, more noise, more wear and hydraulic lifters have to take up more slack.

re-profiled cams do the job but you leave your cam in the hands of the grinder.

JB, what place is near you that does cams? Is it a 'proper' place? Or just a guy you know like? I was looking for a place that does that sorta thing around the swansea area cuz that's the biggest city near me really. I live in the arse crack of nowhere lol. Also, is there anywhere in or near swansea with a rolling road that'll setup your car? Tried looking on www.yell.com, but I might aswell of had a wank. What a shit piece of a website.

But Chris has put me off a bit...

I just want everything to be as best it can like. Probably why I spend most of my life moaning and being told "It's an 11 yr old frikkin car, do u really expect it to be perfect?!?". Doh

I am thick as 2 shits.......maybe 3.......and I believe what you guys say, so you'd better know what ur talkin about Laughing

Well yeah, I am thick when it comes to cars really. Don't really understand properly how an engine works like, and am not gonna pretend that I do! Would just make me look like more of an idiot than I already am Laughing

So this guy, will he fit the cams & set it all up etc? I'm guessing the ECU will need some kinda re-programming?

So your re-grinds are obviously good and you'd recommend them to other people? What sorta power gains are you looking at for them?

no no no , he just sends em off for you and gives them back.

you wil have to fit them yourself. or find someone to do it for you Very Happy

regrinds are very mild so no ECU tweaking is necessary.

just regrinds, you will feel a difference, but not huge.

most places end them to either piper or kent tbh.

contact them directly and see how much they want to re-grind the cams for.

Well I'm probably gonna end up paying more for the fitting than I will for having the cams re-profiled! Doh

Oooh see now this it tempting *tries to resist* lol. Just wondering whether £200 odd quid or whatever is worth it for not much of a difference. Oh, and one of my posts wouldn't be complete without a daft question, so here it is....

Is that £160 for both the camshafts? Or is that £160 each? I am gonna take a guess at both, cuz that would just be silly otherwise
