 Changing of the clutch ( now with pics)

greasing up the input shaft where the release bearing runs up and down....

get the shock out of the way..its only two little bolts at the top now if uve got it off the hub....

Nope, no luck, tried smacking the ball joint about lots, no go. The speedo still wont come out, which I think means the rear bracket wont come off over it, and the sub frame still wont drop anymore than it has. Things aint looking good.....again...

Got the box off Smile The clutch friction plate seems to have shattered itself, heres a pic :Image

Can't get the subframe far enough down to get the box completley off though, been told I need to slacked the offside bolts too?

i forgot to ask did u manage to get the rear mount off after all? or is that still floating around in there? maybe thats still stoppin it from droppin

I managed to shove it 'up' so it was clear of the gearbox, I did monder if it was stoppin it from dropping, but im not sure.

Were, i've got the clutch off, all the friction meterial has been stripped! and DAMN, those alllen bolts are on tight!! And here's what you've been waiting for; PICS!
First: The clutch Old and New

Second: The box and Fly
Image

Third: The old friction plate...whats left of it
Image

Fourth: Old pressure plate, looks a 'little' scroched?
Image

Fifth: Some of the only friction material I could find

Also, during taking the clutch off, the rear bracket fell off!

WELL DONE HUW....see told u it ould be done...thats one fucked clutch...either cheap/badly made or more than likely not fitted correctly....or completely ragged to deth by previous owner...Wink

Clutch was made by 'Valeo' i think. Not sure how u incorrectly fit a clutch? Anyway, been trying to get the box back on....no having much luck, any suggestions?

u used a clutch allignment tool to line the friction plate up correctly? otherwise the input shaft will not go into the splines on the friction plate no matter hpow hard u try.

Right, i've got the box back on and most of the bolts in, just need to get the rear mount back on and everything should be on its way to being finished Very Happy Whats the best way to get that thing back on?

No idea but thats what my last one did. here was pieces of metal embedded into the gearbox casing from that Very Happy

it had over heated, hard driving thus slip had caused it to over heat then when he got to 3rd gear the clutch lining just blew apart.

When clutches go its usually during a change as the lining is no longer clamped in.

When I blew my sisters the clutch plate lost bits of metal like Chets did.

Well, everythigs back in now and amazingly the clutch works, i'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone who replied and helped, probably wouldn't have got it done without help Smile Especially cosidering it was a job I thought i'd never be able to do. Advise was a lot more forthcoming that in my post on 'another' forum Razz
