Well next wednesday or thursday i'm gonna change a tappet cause it's continuously ticking and hard to, i already checked them and there is one i can push down easily with my finger so i guess that's the buggered one. I've got some spare tappets here to use.

1. What i want to know now is can i just put the tappet in or do i have to fill it up or something? (or will it fill itself) (noob question i guess)

2. Can i put the cam i'm taking of back on without using a gasket? cause i think there ain't one know so i guess that ain't needed??

3. Last but not least the thingy that keeps the cam in place does that need to be bolted on with a specific momentum or can i just fasten those bolts by hand?

Cheers guys

1: ideally blead them with oil 1st, so turn them upside down in a pot of oil and pushthe lifter in and out.

2: rocker cover gasket!

3: they have to be torqued down, the outer ones are 24nm, the inner bolts are 10nm.

2. the cam carrier is sealed to the head using hylomar or similar.

there are 16 bolts holding the rocker cover on, the outer 8 are at 24nm and the inner 8 are at 10nm

Hmm well i always did those by hand no problems a well but that wasn't what i wanted to know what i did wanna know was if i had to use a specific torque on the bolts that bolt the carrier on the head!??

Oke thnx dan and should i put something in between carrier and head or just put it up again? on both my head it seams there was nothing in between but then again i ain't an expert (more to say far from Wink )
That hylomar stuff is that the same as fluid gasket or something is or that some special stuff (probably again a stupid question)

And is there a special way the do the bolts for the carrier i know i have to loosen them a milimeter at a time but do i need to do the same when fastening them up?

---
Got some pictures of the other engine in the garage that im stripping and preparing to exchange the one on the car at the moment... coming summer Wink (im not that fast but i really need the car driving atm so that's why the old engine has to be fixed for the time being)

dont worry about the order of undoing them too much. just be sensible and try and slacken them all off evenly.

use Hylomar or RTV between the carrier and head...

use torque settings for the carrier to head but for the rocker just pinch them up hand tight, but be careful not to overdo it, they strip easy.

Well all worked out perfect in the end! I had 32 tappets to start with. After cleaning and refilling I tested 13 to be perfect and 10 to be completely dead. The rest was so so, so i used the 13 good ones and the best 3 of the others and it's running very smooth now! I did forget to order cam oil seals so i had to order them and wait for those to get in, damn renault asks 11 pounds for them a piece Evil or Very Mad
