Simon heard a ticking, he kept driving then the noise came and the engine stopped. Aux belt had got caught on the cambelt and lifted it off the crank pulley so the engine ran out of time. result a dead car for me to fix.

So the strip down began

aux belt after I had wrestled it out

cambelt as well

after removing the loose carbon the pistons have scars but live to fight another day!

headgasket had been leaking

The exhaust downpipe as seenin Neals report as well shows it leaves a lot to be desired

[img:567:425:7254ff97e0]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Simons%20megane/meg%20downpipe.JPG[/img:7254ff97e0]

So it was then off with the inlet manifold.

This was in a state as the meg engine has EGR which likes to make thinsg messy.

Inlet runner

[img:709:531:7254ff97e0]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Simons%20megane/meg%20in%20man%2001.JPG[/img:7254ff97e0]

Inlet vacuum pipe stubs, had to use a drill to clear these

[img:709:531:7254ff97e0]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Simons%20megane/meg%20in%20man%2002.JPG[/img:7254ff97e0]

TB and ICV, both were removed and thoroughly cleaned, and they needed it.

[img:709:531:7254ff97e0]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Simons%20megane/meg%20in%20man%2003.JPG[/img:7254ff97e0]

So it was then onto the strip down.

Another victim of the miss timed belt

[img:709:531:7254ff97e0]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Simons%20megane/meg%20broken%20pulley.JPG[/img:7254ff97e0]

Cam shaft pulley broke, this was the exhaust cam, a normal 16V pulley was used in its place. Only the inlet cam pulley is read by the cam sensor for sequential operation.

Simon had lost his washer bottle cap a while back and it turned up on the exhaust gasket heatshield thing!

[img:531:709:7254ff97e0]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Simons%20megane/meg%20washer%20cap.JPG[/img:7254ff97e0]

The head was then stripped down, heres a pic of 1 of the inlet valves, ALL the valves were like this

[img:709:531:7254ff97e0]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Simons%20megane/meg%20bent%20inlet%20valve.jpg[/img:7254ff97e0]

this shows the gunk build up caused by the EGR system, not nice

[img:709:531:7254ff97e0]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Simons%20megane/meg%20combustion%20chamber%20goo%2001.JPG[/img:7254ff97e0]

Some pics with the valves out and before porting/clean up

As you can see the head was ripe for improving.

Original plugs

So onto the head porting itself, the pics are poor and not everything is shown in the pics either btw!

On the right the ported bowl area on the left standard, see the big step on the stock side?

[img:709:531:758675b122]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/Simons%20megane/meg%20porting%2001.JPG[/img:758675b122]
