i mentioned earlier on here that i was looking for a clio for a friend of mine.after all that time i went to see another clio yesterday ,it was an l reg 1.2 clio 3dr etc. the asking price was 650pounds in the freeads,we went all the way up to pontypridd to see the car.the owner is a middle age woman first thing i saw was the bogging interior all seats with no exception had stains on them like somebody has poured some sort of shit + water mixture on them . the boot contains all sort of shit and underneath the seats is full of crap too. i said ferk it all ,they can be cleaned and had a look under the bonnet to see if that car had an engine worth a few quids really . i opened the coolant tank for a start there is hardly any water in there asked the woman to bring some water ,i chucked in 2 liters of water in the tank it just stopped by the min mark .what the heck ? well obviously the few drops of water in the system is brown in color .checked the oil level was fine .turned the engine on heated up a bit and checked the radiator hoses if there is any pressure build up ,yes there was and went on a test drive the put the heater on ,the fan works in 1st and 2nd but cuts in 3rd speed and while it cuts down you can feel the engine sounding low as well ,like the revs are dropping (i cant see that as the bloody clio dont have a rev counter ) by the way the heat level is in the middle of the gauge but its not heating the cabin at all . i was thinking of head gasket at that time .if that woman has been driving the car for a long while without enough water in the system she might have well ferked the gasket ? but then that might also be happening for a few other reasons as far as i know.anyway the car drives good mechanically ,hesitation on acceleration which i believe has got to do with the plugs as they looked bogging as well, brakes are good really ,no rust at all but a few dents around ,in the end i offered the woman 200 quid for the car she was offended a bit and told me someone from scrap yard offered her 500 but she did not want to scrap it.i had the urge to be more offensive and told her that i would sell it straight away for 500 quid if that was my car ,cause she wont be able to get that much in the end unless she can con a muppet somehow.my friend was disappointed in the end but i would not let her buy that shed .

i am still looking for a small car with a 1 or 1,2 litre engine for her in the range of 300-500 quid but this is the second clio of the same range i have seen and inspected and the most shocking bit was that these ferking cars dont have any extras on them at all, wind up mirrors, shity steering no central locking etc.why would someone want a car without a ferking rev counter i will never know .well i sort of changed her mind about clios a bit now she is considering any car which i will recommend her . any recommendations would be good from you guys ? what small 90-93 cars had leccy windows and power steering ???
cheers

Fiat Tipos are good reliable cars. leccy windows, power steering, central locking etc. Wont rust because its galvanised. cheap because noone wants them. No rev counter, sorry

Ah the Tipo... they have a very special place in my heart. Particularly the Sedicivalvole.

talking about tipos ,i just came across to a nice metallic blue one last night ,the car is parked in a car park with a for sale sign on it 295pounds is the asking price .i could not see it well in dark but looks nice and solid . its a k reg 1.4i.e ,injection is really good on these cars as they tend to drink fuel in carb versions .i used to drive a tempra which is the big brother of the tipo ,some have digi dashes too but not nice looking really plus might go tits up fast than you got to change the whole unit .
will have a look in daylight tomorrow ,i am sure that car has leccy stuff in it ,not sure it is girly and curvy enough for my friend though ,damm girls they always go for the looks

the problem is a wee cars always gonna be dearer than a big car, there was nothign worng with the clio you looked at, needed a coolant flush, new stat and a good clean from the sounds of it.

Tell her to either get a bigger car or increase her budget. Or go to the auctions.

the tipo i saw last night in the car park was gone this afternoon,i think its sold ,that would not surprise me at all.nice size cars they are .
she does not know shite about cars chris ,she likes the clio for the looks (she must be blind ) .i called her about the tipo last night she had a look and said she did not like the looks but she would go for it if i say its a good reliable car . ferk it ,i will look for something else .
clio was okey ,just dirty and not looked after , and i was really worried about the missing water i did not know how long that welsh witch drove the car like that for. so i did not want to risk 500 quid (which is not even mine ) for that.
how would i know if a car has a ferked gasket ? does my ''RAD HOSE PRESSURE BUILD UP'' test make any sense ?
by the way i forgot to tell this ,while i was test driving the car i felt an electric shock from the top metal side of the gear stick (there was not a gear knob, its broken or smth) any idea how that might happen ? i was thinkin of some dodgy earth somewhere (gearbox may be )
i know she wont go for a bigger car but might increase her budget and get a better car .
do most r19s have leccy windows and power steering ? cause she hinted me she might go for a r19 after seeing how reliable mine has been for the past 10 months

hoses are meant to build up pressure thats how a cooling system works.

Lots are low on water and they are not ragged the energies are resiliant lumps so a little low won't be to bad as long as its not gone on to do daytona or something.

Nope not many 19's have leccy stuff.

Gte her a 16V.

yes thats what i meant about the hoses ,they build pressure up as you told me once that the pressure helps increasing the boiling temp of the water which makes perfect sense . does that also mean the head gasket is fine when you can feel the pressure?
if we get her a 16v will need some serious modification chris ,which will cost hell of a lot. the last 3 gears woud have to be removed from the box straight away for a start.

it only means the gasket hasnt gone into a waterway...still possible to go to an oilway...to the outside or between cylinders...a quick comp test will determine that

right got it guys ,so its a bit of a luck really as you wont have the chance to ask for a compression test while buying a car from any ferker .

well if you take along a plug socket and the compression tester, if the car is genuine, they would be a muppet to lose out on a sale because they dont want you to take 10 mins to check the engine is ok.
