1.4 pump is not ok for standard lump, half the flow and just over half the pressure. It will run lean and melt.

well you must have had a funny 1.4 pump as the 16V is twice the size and any 16V they have been fitted to doesn;t run well at all!

Seen a few and the latest was the white 16V which was transformed with the 16V pump.

and as always theres 2 ways to do things the right way or the wrong way! I wouldn't be happy running it lean and getting it hot.

well like i say, mine was fine. i had a 16v pump for it, but never got round to fitting it!

besides, running lean actually reduces peak combustion temps.......cue the wrath of arguments!!!

interesting stuff really,
but why renault not use the same pump on all models than if that the case ???? i personally would be well happy without that noisy pump of a beast

running lean does indeed lower peak temps but theres no need to unless you have regulations stipulating it.

Lean burn uses every bit of the fuel but when theres a shit head and chamber there doing the burning its of no benefit.

Yet another area where manufacturers are crap!

Schakal the bigger engines need more fuel so they use a bigger pump simple as that.

It will run with the smaller pump but in my experience it will not be happy at full throttle.

1.4 pump = 3 bars of pressure and a flow rate of 0.83 litres per minute.
1.8 16v pump = 3 bars again but a flow rate of 2.16 litres per minute.

Quite significant difference i'm sure you will all agree.

New question for you guys also.
When removing my 1.4, can i get the gearbox free of the driveshafts without removing the roadwheels? as i have limited space down the side of my car.

the 16V pump is more than 3 bars btw, its 3.5 bar regulator on the rail.

no the wheels have to come off
