I'm trying to it a new clutch pedal to my Clio and cannot keep the assembly together whilst trying to put it in the car. I have attached the spring and that keeps on pulling the assembly apart.

Any tips on what I should be doing?

Thanks

assuming its like the 19 16v, put the spring on last of all, get the pedal assembled and onto the bar, making sure the spacers are on correctly, push the bar through and make sure both spring clips on the end of the bar are fitted, then put on the spring, then the clutch cable.

thats the way i did it on my 19 and took 10 mins at most.

pedal assembled but sping not attached until its fitted in the car

How did you put on the spring after? There's not much room.

i used a small flat head screwdriver to pull it down and hook it in.

you have it on the bar ok yes? so the pedal is able to move freely and the spacers dont pop out?

try putting the screwdriver into the coil of the spring and then tugging it down, gently mind cos you dont want to stretch the spring out of shape and then hooking it in.

it is a fiddly job but keep at it.

Tried that. My mate has lent me a pair of forceps which I can grip the spring with and pull it down, so that should work.

I was tired yesterday and getting frustrated, it took forever to new cable in the car!

I'm going to give it another try now.

Thanks for your help.

I did it!!!!

I tried the forceps idea, but couldn't get a decent grip on the spring.

I then took the spring out, tied a length of fishing braid to it, fed it back through the pedal, strapped my finger up (the briad would cut down to the bone otherwise), wrapped the braid round my finger and pulled it down.

It went in on the third attempt.

Never again, LOL!!!

I put it together hold the bushes in the pedal and slide it on, job done.

Tried that Chris and I just couldn't do it. Got there in the end though.

The new cable and pedal hasn't helped with my gearbox though, I'm still getting grinding noises when it's under load.

I think that I am going to need a new gearbox though, but is there any possibility that it could be something else that I haven't thought of.

Cheers

The oil level is fine, but there are bits of metal in the oil.

I take it the box is knackered?

change the oil and see how it goes.

90% of cars the oil is silver, with a change most are ok.

Thing is Chris, the gearbox has just been changed for a second hand one and the oil should be new.

I can't get it into thirdor fifth and it grinds in every other gear.
