I'm going to look at a Clio 16v thats for sale tomorrow but the owner says that there is quite a major oil leak. It's not been started for about 2 months but when it was running it went through about 5 litres of oil in 3000 miles he said.

Where are the usual places for a Clio 16v to leak oil?

I know of the oil filter and rocker gasket but where else would it be likely to leak so that I have a better idea of where to look?

Thanks.

thanks for the offer chris, it's not essential that it would be saturday I would have a look anyway as I've not arranged it with the guy yet - but said I would probably phone him and try to arrange something. TBH I'm not too sure on how serious I am about buying it - but I intend to have a look anyway.

yeah, I'll go and have a look tomorrow. I was about to say I could just go on sunday, but realised it's a mates birthday tomorrow and I'll be in no fit state to drive early on sunday, lol.

He said the car hasn't been run for about two months so it would need to be bump started. I'll try and take some pics of the oil leak to see if anyone off here can be of any use if I can't see the source of it myself.

Right, just back from having a look at this car. In general the bodywork is good and there is no rust other than a little at the back of the sills.

As for the oil leak you can see from underneath that it's coming down the back of the sump. Would this suggest any particlular place for it to be leaking from?

I couldn't see that well underneath as it's very low and had two flat front tyres though so I'm not that sure of where it's coming from.

It hadn't been running since about december according to the owner but fired up first time when jump started.

The other thing I noticed was that there were two sensors on the head where the CTS is on my 1.4 but they weren't connected to anything. What sensors would these be on a 16v one was kind of yellow/white and the other was brown? I couldn't see the connectors for them anywhere either.

Thanks.

brown could be the temp gauge or the anti perc system (if its that then its the bottom sender under th etop hose) and the CTS.

Thanks chris, has anyone got a photo of that side of a 16v head and I could tell you exactly which two it is. I was going to try and get some photos but I forgot my camera Embarassed

Any idea about possibilities for the oil leak?

I'm getting very tempted by it as it's fairly cheap.

Thanks.

sump, head hasket, core plug on the pump housing, cracked head, oil spilled down the back of the engine, cam cover gasket, iraqi oil emmiting spec clio 16V (very rare), minature whal that can survive on an engine secreting oil from its arse and the list goes on.

I don't have my crystal ball with me at the moment so I cannot tell you whats causign it.

As for the tempo senders, theres 3, 1 top, 1 side and 1 bottom.
