Help! My clutch cable snapped last week. Thought I'd try and replace it myself but had major problems getting the cable over the pedal quadrant. Finally gave up and got someone in who said reason was because the plastic ratchet on the pedal had broken. Bloke replaced pedal and put the new cable in but when he pressed the pedal down it pulled the cable right out of the pedal and back to the cable guide in the bulkhead.

His response was that he thought the pressure plate had gone.

Bloke was a bit dodgy so rather than let him do anything else I wondered if any of you could confirm if you've had a similar experience and whether he might be correct that the pressure plate is knackered.

If it was, is it a big/costly job to fix on a Williams?

hes talking pish would be my 1st thought!

he obviously never replaced the pedal or the cable

if the plate had gone then you would have known when driving it.

Did he give you the old pedal back?

How was it damaged?

Did you get a RENAULT cable?

Hi Chris

Still got the old pedal and the hexagonal shaped thing on the toothed "ratchet" to house the end of cable housing was broken.

Didn't get a Renault cable but the length and fittings were the same - whilst I was struggling to fit it I thought it would be a good idea to double check this so I took it back out and compared them.

Up until the cable snapped (fortunately quite close to home!) I hadn't noticed any clutch-like problems - noises, slipping, etc

well I would say the cables been fitted wrong its easy to route wrong and get it tight.

Was the cable fed through the small archway bit on the quadrant?

will have a look this afternoon.

From the clutch side, the cable looked like it was fitted under the air filter housing, across to the passenger side bulkhead and along to the hole in the bulkhead where it goes up into the driver's footwell.
