Driving last night: heard a bang when i put my clutch pedal down, and assumed the cable had snapped. Managed to drive 6 miles without a clutch before I decided I'd had enough (any tips for getting it in 1st gear from standing without having to push the car going first?).

Looked at it just now and I dont think the cable has snapped. It had come out of the clutch arm: I put it back in place and now it works fine again?! The only strange things (may have been there before though) are that there is a creaking sound from the engine bay (i think) if you depress the clutch pedal rapidly, and also when your foot nears the floor there is a click (from the adjusting ratchet?). This click happens every time.

Any ideas what caused it to jump out? Is it a knackered adjuster / pedal?

Am tempted just to keep drving it but I know it will probably happen again when I least need it!!!

Cheers,

Steve

I just had a thought - might the cable have stretched to the point where the adjuster can no longer keep it tight enough? Does this even happen? Smile

I will check the pedal out tomorrow, from searching on here it looks like a bit of a tight b***h to do!

basically you cant, fork will not wrk when it punches through on the pivit, cable is ov it wont have much affect in changing gears, 1st change the pedal and cable, if it continues and it is the fork or clutch change them both, i didnt check my fork when i did my clutch last week rebuilt it a found out the fork was buggered, not funny with out a welder would of been box off again, now i got my own soft pedal conversion Smile

the gear changes are fine, but it seems there is some funny stuff going on with the pedal (free play before it takes up any tension) on top of what I listed earlier. So I'll try a new pedal first, then a cable if it happens again.

tip for getting the car moving from a standing start with no clutch pedal.

engine off, put into 1st gear, handbrake off and start the car and off she goes.

my clutch pedal broke on my 19 in the middle of london, i drove it home the 35 odd miles from there with no clutch pedal, was so much fun . . not

cool man just what I was after...gave up after having to push the car over the brow of a hill and then get me and my girlfriend to jump in the car while it was rolling!!!

Can't imagint that would be much fun at a roundabout though Smile

Just out of interest - if you have to drive for 4 or 5 miles without a clutch dies it have any major bad effects?

most I have done was about 100 miles and about 70 of those were 5th gear motorway stuff.

Roundabouts and hill starts are great fun.

try driving with no throttle control, thats fun.
