not sure but i dont knackered chris,i did not actually have a problem changing gears ,its smooth . i had this in many other cars i drove 98 escort 16v,99 focus , a few fiat cars etc (most of them company cars ) .it always happens and you get that smell in the cabin . is it because of pushing the clucth to the limits or did all those cars i drove had fecked clutches?

do you rest your foot on the clutch when you drive?

Slip, the engine speed increases in gear but the road speed doesn't due to the clutch slipping.

my foot is always on the clucth while driving but making sure its not pressing the clutch of course if thats what you mean .
sometimes the revs are going up but the car responses late speed wise especially in 2nd gear and low revs .by the way i usually take off in the second gear (gently) just because the top end of 1st gear on this car pisses me off .

use the footrest, any pressure on any clutch pedal will cause it to slip overheat then go pop. Lucky to get 10k miles from a clutch driving like that.

Thats why you smell that smell on any car you drive.

Also takign off using 2nd gear will again over heat the clutch because you have to slip it lots.

Basdically your abusing the clutch and it will not last.

revs are not the problem its the fact the clutch is being slipped. A clutch is basically a brake disc and pads.

So think of you driving along with your foot on the brake all the time, the brakes over heat and will eventually stop working, same with the clutch.

Slipping the clutch eventually leads to this happening

The cable is always under tension as well on these cars so any pressure on it causes the clutch to slip.
