 Clutch adjustment

Sorry if I'm asking a question that's already been asked on here, I have just had a quick search but couldn't find anything. Was just wondering if anyone could explain to me how to adjust the clutch if there is a way of doing it? Adjust the pedal is probably what I mean. I don't know, I'm stupid lol. But yeah, my biting point is about an inch from the floor and I keep stalling the damn thing and it's doin me nut in! The haynes is about as much use as a smack in the chops, so I thought I'd ask you guys. Oh.........by the way..........you can adjust the clutch/pedal can't you? Or is it new clutch time?? doh

Certainly on the CLios, so i'm guessing its the same for your car, you just attach the cable each end and pump the pedal and it automatically adjusts itself

thats it. Theres no 'adjustment' you can do. The cable is a fixed length, and the pedal has a ratchet mechanism on the end which should do the biz automatically.

Except if its shafted, in which case you need to replace it, about £20 from renault.

So could biting point getting lower mean that the adjustment thingy is fucked & clutch is okay? Or is clutch probably fucked? Or could be either and I need to get new pedal thing and see if that solves it?

Take the cable off and outit back in and let it re-adjust itself, if that fails you could go and get a new pedal assembly from reno, or as Chris suggested, you could learn to live with it

You guys are starting to sound like my dad. "Live with it" is his general solution to everything. It's like "dad, my engine has fallen out of the car and is dragging on the ground. Also, my steering doesn't work and I have no brakes.........or wheels" and he's like "ahhh it's alright mun, you worry too much". But "live with it" is no use to me! I wanna do something about it, hence askin on here Rolling Eyes

Its a nasty Renault low maintaince thing.

You have a plastic ratchet thing on the top of the pedal.

You can try to get some WD40 spray up in there.

Or some grease with your finger.

But if its gone the pedal will go to the fire wall :-

Replace the pedal assembly.

I have the same prob on my R19.Changed pedal but not much different.Is it possable the cable can stretch? The mech that takes up the slack seems to be almost at the end of its travel.

As Chris H said to me in another post about this...you have to live with it, my biting point jumps from 1/2 inch from floor to 1 inch from floor.
I had a closer look by takeing the panel below the steering block off and disconnecting the drivers side blower vent, and the white self adjust teeth seem to meet right between two teeth on the black and changes it's mind as to where it settles.
I'm going to try a couple washers on the gearbox end of the cable by the clutch release fork to maybe take up some slack so the teeth meet nicely. Should work in theory Confused but will see in the morning.

I've found a way to get the clutch to engage lower to the floor (mine was 5mm from the top).

I took the black toothed ratchet and filed down certain teeth so the self adjust would sit on the teeth I wanted it to thus lowering my biting point to where it used to be.

I'm guessing you could do this for raising the biting point. I like it near the floor myself. I love crunching that reverse gear Confused

if you file the teeth away though then it might just stop working.

My clutch is away, even with my foot on the floor the car creeps forward now.
