my clutch cable snapped yesterday so have been looking at a posts to do with replacing the clutch cable.
i have ordered a cable from renault = £21.
is it just a case of taking the heat shields off and unclipping it from the gear box end (snapped at the pedal) then pulling it off the car and putting the new one on with the exact routing.

the car has bendix ABS does this give me a little bit extra room

is it easy to reset the pedal

cheers peps

lol ABS takes away the room and causes it to route awkwardly.

Pedal resets when you press it.

but yeah straight swap.

if you have somehtign to tie to then tie string to the cable in the drivers footwell and pull it through the bay, makes it a lot easier.

well wasnt to bad tbh.
had a new clutch pedal so replaced that at the same thime good job really as the other one was damaged.

the new cable went on fairly easy. the old one was well fooked and now the clutch biting point is as moved and the pedal is really light now so lets hope it all ok

thanks for the advice chris.

oh whilst im here i have a knocking noise most of the time after acceleration wheather hard or not. its also sometimes when i turn.

i have to changed my right front top mount as it cracked so was gonna change the bearing thing on both sides as well, could this be related or is it likly to be an engine mount

if it's knocking, it's prolly not a bearing.. could be a CV joint tho..

What was it like to change the pedal? It's the last job me and the old man did on my Clio before we flogged it and it was the most frustrating infuriating tedious job ever!

How we managed it in the end I've no idea, it was such a pig to rig the pedal up with the spring tensioned up without the whole lot coming apart at the slightest knock and getting it anywhere near the pivot shaft was a complete and utter nightmare!

Took us about 4 hours betwen us taking it in turns before we finally did it!

lol took me 3.5 hours to do the pedal and the cable. never done either of them before.
was a bit of a pain in the ass because like you said it kept falling apart. but dont forget the 19 is slightly bigger

but i do need to stick the last wavy washer on the shaft but cant compress them enough to stick the clip on it. any ideas

is it me, or is there quite a few washers on the rail where the clutch pedal sits, along with the brake pedal and accelerator? i changed my clutch cable too when it snapped as well, so frustrating that i think i may not have either put enough washers on, or put them on wrongly, and it was about 3 years ago.... as you know, i'm rebuilding mine slowly and it hasnt been on road for years so the memory is a bit blurry, cany be arsed to get upside down to have a look at it in this weather, lol

I had this problem, turned out it was the lower ball joint. It had totally gone, gaiter was split and all the grease had gone. Loads of play in it which was causing the knocking. Changed both and know the knock be gone!

hmmmm......... worth thinking about. i am gonna change the exhaust mounts asi know the exhaust knocks. then i will do the top mount and bearing things and then i will try find where the knock is coming from
