Once this one is out does the box require any force to remove it or can it just be pulled off?

I dont know, depends if you've left any others in. But once ALL the bolts and nuts are out, it should just slide off, might require a tap here and there with the rubber mallet

The starter never holds it in place even when the bolts are all out then?

Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated. I shall have another go in the morning. It's the first time I have attempted a gearbox removal from the coupe has not been too bad just taken a bit longer than expected. Need to get the box to the reconditioners by am tommorow!

the starters bolted to the engine at the back.

Theres 3 starter bolts. 3 bolts on the top of the box to the block, 1 nut at the front 1 nut at the back beside the offside output shaft and then the 4 or 5 cannae mind nuts that hold the bottom of the box to the sump.

Do you have to take the off side drive shaft out? If you do how does it come out it does not seem to pull?

if the box is comign out for a recon then yes it needs to come off.

Drive the roll pin out and pull the inner CV off the output shaft

So with my pin out why is the shaft not moving? Does it need a bang?

Persuasion given and off it popped. Thanks. One final question. Everything is off and the box is loose but it will not move far enough out to clear. There is a green cap on the end of the box that hits the wing, when I lower it to clear the cap the bottom of the box hits the chassis. Can I take the green cap off or is there another way to finnally get the box out? I have not loosened the sub frame.

The green cap is black in the picture above.

you can squeeze it through the hole slightly to get it out, it5s tricky but possible, have you taken the small bar that runs vertically from the subframe to the inner wing off? as this blocks it.

Other wise theold undo the rerar subframe mountign and lever the subframe down will do the job.

Many thanks to you both, the box is out and at the reconditioners and a new clutch awaits it's return.

Thanks again
