recently i have been getting a horrible squeaking sound when ever i accelerate or am pottring along at about 3000rpm. i've been advised that it could be the thrust bearings as it never happens unless the clutch is on load. what i'm after knowing is, is this likely and also how much am i looking at to get it sorted? i'm pissed off because the clutch was only replaced 8 months ago, the garage i had it done at siad that the part is covered but the Labour (the expensive bit) wouldn't be. didn't like this garage as the service and qality of work was shit. So am willing to pay for parts to get a good job done. can anyone offer any advice?
cheers

Not being silly but are you sure it isn't your aux belt being loose?

well if its the relase bearing it should do it at idle as well. open the bonnet and get someone to press the pedal whilst you listen.

If it is the release bearing then a new bearing is about 15 quid. Labour depends on where you go, theres enough room slide the box back and pop a new bearing in without removing it.

make sure thats the prob though.

if the garage replaced it all I'm surprised its gone. Always ask to see the old parts whenever you get new bits on. I always show customers their old knackered bits and if their keen the new bits on the car.

I think soneji cood be right it sounds like the discription is the opposite of thrust bearing noise or i too might be reading it wrong but usually the thrust bearing squeels untill its under load, and now that i think about it the water pump in the red hatchback used to squeel at certain revs. good luck in your squeel quest.

cheers for the advice, it's more of a squeking than squeel. my initial thought was my shocks, hence previous posts but someone was in the car with me (supposidly knows a thing or two) and suggested it could be thrust bearings. when it's sqeeuking and i press the clutch the squeeking stops. it's the sort of squeeking to dreed to hear coming from your parents bed room!!

the dizzy is another area famous for squeaking, I usually shim them with a coke can to stop it.

Usually lower revs that squeak though.

take dizzy cap off, look at dizzy shaft, theres a washer on it to take out the thrust, this wears. So you need to thicken it, by shimmign it.

Get a coke can chop it up, cut a square out then cut the shafts width out of the middle slide it on round it over and now there will be less endplay and an end to the noise.
