Progress has been typically slow and steady. I've stripping the engine down as much as time allows. For once i've actually taken care to note and seperate every nut and bolt i've taken off!

The worst job of the whole build is the emerald wiring loom. In order to make that i need to join together 3 different looms, a 19 16v one for the starting and charging curcuits etc, a megane one as it uses different difference sensors to the 19 and finally i'll be using a rover 400 loom as the emerald shares its connector block and pinouts with te Rovers MEMS ECU. Where possible i have been using rover sensors in pace of the renault ones, namely the TPS and the ICV, the reason for this is to make the making of the loom simpler. The TPS i have already modified to fit the megane TB but the ICV will need to be done at an engineers but as i need them to make up a blanking plate for the EGR system its not a problem.

While i wait for the rover loom to arrive i intend to get the engine built up and be ready to go. After the full stripdown i will be testing the mighty power of cillit bang on all the little bits! Reports on here suggest its good for getting rid of gunk so i can't wait to test it for myself.

Parts wise i ordered the last of the bits i need today:

Cam seals
Inlet/Exhaust Manifold gaskets
Timimg belt kit
Water pump
Flywheel bolts (to stop hanna's feet gettin chopped off Razz)

I'll need to go through my boxes of bits and make sure i have all the other seals to hand sometime soon.

No exciting pics yet as theres isn't much to see that you can't see elsewhere

Still no pics, so sue me!

Cillit bang - not bad, been cleaning the gunk off little nuts and bolts and its quite good!

All my parts have arrived so the buildup has begun. The crank is now in with new bearings and spinning freely, which is nice. THe end plate has been siliconed on with renaults finest rtv and a new seal fitted.

The oil pump drive/aux shaft pulley was being an arse and was damaged coming off but luckily i had a spare. A new seal and gasket was fitted to that.

Next up the forged arias pistons were fitted to the original conrods. No dramas there and care was taken to keep the rods in the same location and same way round they came out originally. I don't know if its particularly necessary but i prefer to do it. Could be my OCD acting up Razz

I had borrowed a ring compressor for the garage where i work but on attempted fitting it was discovered to be wanked. It didn't matter anyway as the ARP rod bolts need a 3/8 socket and thats something else i didn't have.

Other than that i just done a bit of cleaning of the coolant passageways. The mother is now missing her bottle brush but i am the proud owner of some clean engine internals! weehay Laughing

I will be getting pics tomorrow and thats a promise Wink

I have just got my hands on a rover map sensor, to be more specific it is a combined map sensor and air temp sensor. Thats a stroke of luck as the megane normally houses its air temp sensor in the air filter housing so as such there is no provision for it in the inlet manfold as there is on an F7P. It also looks like it will fit in the now unused EGRV inlet, sweet!

The bottom end is getting close to fully assembled, just need to fit the waterpump and oil pump which is no big deal. No dramas really but i wasn't amused having to tighten and slacken the ARP rod bolts 3 times as per the instructions, i'm a busy man you know!

I have some piccies, nothings really exciting but here they are. Some i had abviously already taken

Heres the start of the stripdown, sump pulled off

Another sticky mess, note the brothers bumper held on with tape Laughing

I thought i had a before pic of this. Believe it or not this is 10 times better than it was

Today i went about figuring out how to get my rover ICV and map sensor onto the megane inlet manifold.

Here is the original ICV attached to the manifold

[img:800:600:506c18ac42]http://www.renault-turbo.com/710/origicv.jpg[/img:506c18ac42]

and here is where it mounts to the manifold the hole nearest the bottom is the inlet into the ICV, it is connected to the black inlet to its left. The other hole is the outlet for the ICV.

[img:800:600:506c18ac42]http://www.renault-turbo.com/710/icvmounting.jpg[/img:506c18ac42]

This is the rover ICV beside the mounting, not a direct fit so some form of adapter plate will need making up. the inlet for the rover one is to the top and the outlet is bolted onto a flat surface sealed with the orange o-ring

[img:800:600:506c18ac42]http://www.renault-turbo.com/710/newicv.jpg[/img:506c18ac42]

Here is the mounting point that was originally for the EGR system which is being dumped.

[img:800:600:506c18ac42]http://www.renault-turbo.com/710/egrin.jpg[/img:506c18ac42]

In my hand is the rover map sensor and combined air temp sensor. The fitting is quite similar to the egr but not perfect!

[img:800:600:506c18ac42]http://www.renault-turbo.com/710/egrandmap.jpg[/img:506c18ac42]

As you can probably tell the inlet hole needs to be opened out a bit in other for the sensor to fit in fully. Also the bolt holes don't line up so new ones will have to be drilled and tapped

[img:800:600:506c18ac42]http://www.renault-turbo.com/710/mapinplace.jpg[/img:506c18ac42]

AS mentioned above i am also using a rover TPS, here it is in place but without its mounting plate so not attached

Still not much progress made, my head isn't finished yet and i'm waiting for my sump to come back from being reinforced

Today i managed to spread my 19 16v loom across the floor and start removing the unneeded bits. As its a megane engine being used the actual engine control loom isn't needed, any part that goes between the ECU and a sensor was removed. For example the MAP sensor wiring was cut out .

Some wires are still attached to the ECU plug, this is either becuase they will need matching up to the emerald or are needed for something else.

I have to say some of the renault wiring really baffles me!

This pic shows a work in progress, there is still more to remove but until i can get my wiring diagram i'm a bit stuck!

Won this on ebay yesterday

[img:400:300:1a8a47c423]http://www.renault-turbo.com/710/roverloom.jpg[/img:1a8a47c423]

Its an engine loom for a 97 rover 416 so ideal for my needs. The one i was waiting for never turned up so the 12 quid this one cost was worth it

Once it arrives the fun will start!
