 Coilovers on a 1.4?

coilovers are shite matey.

If your really unlucky like chet was the welds on them will break apart whilst you drive.

Clio boys etc that have them juist have the tops hitting and thus denting the bonnet due to their shite construction.

If you wanna waste money then your going the right way about it.

Get lowered 16V gear if you must.

I know whatyour feeling mate because I went here with my 1.4, but its all well and good having a low car, but if you can't go anywhere, whats the point? My 1.4 was lowered 35mm on valver struts or so, sat about 2/3cm lower then a standard valver and my sump was a right mess through college speed bumps. I lowered my Cordoba 50mm (why???) and it looked the daddys, but my god was it a shit drive but the Seats were much harder then a valvers.

Once you've had your suspension fitted it will have to be laser aligned for castor/camber and tracking which won't be cheap in itself. Then, like Chris says, you have damage to your bonnet, then maybe to your wings if they catch, to your sump / bumper from the lowness, to your back. Oh, plus you'll be going through balljoints every other week.

You say your 1.4 is in good nick, fair doos, but the book price is probably the same as the suspension your buying!

Get valver setup and if you must fit -35/40mm springs to that which will be about 80mm lower then standard 1.4 suspension.

£300 is more then my Valver cost me with 4 new tyres and 10mts MOT, if your happy to waste money on suspension kit then surly you can waste money on insurance and have much more fun with a valver then in a 1.4, and gain more respect in the process? Hell, offer me £400 and you can take my Valver with 6mts Tax as I'm looking at an Audi Coupe Wink http://www.blacklin.dsl.pipex.com/newvalver/valver1.JPG

Really a £300 one off price is ok, but insurance for me is way over £2000 for a valver, saying that i'd love one as everyone rates them quite highly. It's just that's like me paying £200 a month for the next 12 month and I can only work part time due to my college course, which I have to pay for aswell to get there. I could have a valver it's just i'd have very little money to maintain it if anything went wrong.

A 16v clio is cheaper for insurance, but I am not a great fan of clio's (no offence to clio owner's) and I can't really cart around my drums, etc. in it.

I might consider it after January 2006 as I will have 1 year of driving, but not an NCB as I am on my Mum's due to the cost of the 1.4 Sad In January it will be £1500 TPFT for me.

I will do a bit more to the 1.4 to keep me happy until January and just get it going well. I will service it on Monday as I am not paying anymore to be ripped off for services when I can do most of it at my mates who's Grandad gave him some ramps and axle stands too Very Happy

Addie - Shame you probably wont have that 19 in January otherwise i'd probably have it.

Looking auto trader/Ebay most of them are either modified with some horrid jap kit or stupidly priced or "spairs or repairs".

I most likely will be after one in January so if anyone is thinking of selling up a fairly low milage, good condition 19 16v (un-modified prefered) then let me know.

Mine has 80,105 on it...

and if you have £300 to spend now why not buy it and fettle with it between now and then? Drive it home and cash in the tax for £80.

My 1.4 cost me £1000 to insure in my own name when I was 17, then when I was 19 the valver cost me £450 - and now at 21 it costs me £360 Very Happy
