anyone ken the going rate for a 3.5BAR safety valve?

Had an ongoing problem since the boiler was first installed and as usual plumbers etc don't have a clue. Its about 6/7 years old.

Anyway, the pressure has never held in the boiler so you always have to top it up via the loop circuit.

Today the cry of water resonated throughout the house. So I finally decided to have a gander, chronic laziness is a condition not a voluntary exercise!

I found the union into the back of the saftey valve was loose and thus leaking. So I tightened it.

I then topped up the pressure and heard the valve was leaking internally. A shove on the red cap soon stopped the flow and silenced it. A new one is needed. So my theory is this valve has always been faulty. To open it you twist is counterclockwise 1/4 turn and it empties. Its 3.5 bar set so theres obviously a spring and ball bearing or somethign in there to prevent the flow.

heres some pics of said item.

so I need to get another valve and fit it.

All the plumbing shops are shut today so was just wondering if anyone knew the going rate for one.

yes but it leaks away out of the boiler due to the dodgy valve.

need to go and get a new valve later on.

well managed to get one that was useless.

Anyway had to go to 3 places to eventually get one.

Whilst we were at the 2nd establishment (plumb centre) I spotted a performance car place beside it

look at that, yes a 190 merc cossie, had the big spoiler and everything, rare beast.

Anyway back home and the new and old valves

Image

were it goes

Basically the new valve didn't go. It was to long and it turned through 90 more degrees to seal, theres no provision for me to fit a washer so I stripped the old valve and cleaned otu the crap and then stuck it back in. Seemed to have worked.

Strippign it and cleanign it is what I should have done in the 1st place.

Anyway took the combustion chamber cover off etc to hoover it out

the roof of the chamber is th eheat exhanger, just like a heat matrix.
