So what should we learn from all this?

Touch the breaks to check adherence.

Accelerating, if you lose grip there must be a reason. Cold tyres ice.

Bad breaking.
Cold brake pads - Motorway? After-market pads? Smoke OK, fading.

Weather forcast. Why not.

If your not rallying, (if you are, normally you will get ice notes,) Take it easy if in doubt.

Basically keep the thing on the road.

Or buy a Fiat 500 best little car on snow.

Been there done that.

I agree with most that has been said here, it was going to happen!

I'm glad I didn't have anything more powerful then my EJ6 when I was 17, you don't learn to drive until you've passed your test still managed to have some hairy moments!

I thort you were skint and owned your mum £££? I would have sold the 172 and got a runabout long ago! At this rate it will be worth nowt and have cost you £!

Me and Liam had great fun in our valvers down the backroads round here, we've discovered that Chammys are better for getting the back end out round corners (either that or my handbrake is crap!)

Its amazing how much fun you can have in the snow in a £200 car Wink

Anyway, bad luck mate, hope it gets sorted.

It's true, experience is what makes a driver, although even with experience some drivers are just crap. Passing your test is just that passing a test.

Don't think anyone has our (scots) experience of snow! There are two places round here you're guaranteed to slide round whenever the temperature drops, that's one of the places you need experience. I also agree that giving 17/18 year olds fast cars is asking for trouble. I think there should be a limit on the size of engine a person (male or female) can have within 3-5 years of passing their test, in saying that you've got to be barking to spend the fortune the insurance companies take you for when your that age and want to insure a powerful car. I wouldn't even consider buying a powerful car at that age because of the insurance cost. But I am a scot Laughing
