When I am parking or driving slowly I notice that my ren 19 phase 2 creaks. It does not do it all the time but its like a cracking noise. Its been suggested its the CV joints by a mate but I am no mechanic and dont want to spend a furtune if its not? Any ideas on how to test it??

Also, I have owned the car 2 months and since picking it up there has been a strange jangling rattle coning from underneath when i hit a bumb or manhole cover. Its best decribed as sounding like a steel ring on a scafold pole when its jangles. Thought it could be the clutch rel bearing but is no dfferent if the pedal is depressed or not?

Thanks in advance

hmmm the jangling rattling noise could be a suspension component, check the nuts on top of the struts, one of mine has a habit of working itself loose and i get that kind of noise.

My black ph2 1916v made the cracking noise when turning slowly, it turned out it was the top mount bearings as Chris says.

Thanks for the replies guys, very helpful.

As my status dicates, I am a novice with the car,is it a hard job to check these mounts and is it a costly repair? Embarassed

if the top mounts are cracked you should be able to see it

open the bonnet and look either side where the struts bolt on

I have checked for the craks as shown in the picture and mine appear to be fine, its almost like a griding noise. To check the mounts do I need to jack up the car and drop the strut out? Is there a like a mount at the top that could have perished causing a metal on metal noise?

Thanks again.
