i took my car for a trip up swansea today and for some reason when i was waiting in the trafic lights, the oil pressuer light and a few others where flickering on and off, it stops if i rev the car,

any ideas Question

could be low oil pressure? in which your engine is fooked, as its too late when the light comes on

the engine was mint, iv only just rebiult the top end, it was off ebay, the guy said it only did 50k, and he had all the papers with it

could it not be a faulty oil pressure switch, or a dodgy connection, i dont think the engine is fooked, it running really well apart from the dash lights and its hard to start from cold Confused

i believe your car is the 1.8 8v MPI version ,not the 16v . and with the f3p engines ,the oil pressure gauge only shows when you turn the ignition on and goes back right down when you start the engine up unlike a 16v model
so i do not think your engine is fucked ,must be some other electrical problem

il have to do a check in the morning, il change the oil pressure switch first to see if that helps, il also change the CTS

I've also got an 1.8 8v F3P engine and the oil pressure gauge doesnt show anything.
And it has recently been to a service station so its not low oil level Smile

ok here is an update, i checked the oil pressure sensor and it was coverd in oil, so i put one in from the oold engine and that sorted the problem. Laughing

the only thing is these engine seem to run very hot, iv seen a few of them with blown expansion tanks Confused

i dont think mine is running hot ,it never missed the 2nd notch ,sits there nicely .how hot does yours run?

whenever i stop the car the fan comes on, it on most of the time
