Hey, havent been on here for a while, thought I'd just update you all.

I bought a new bonnet, 16v williams one, £21 off ebay. Was getting quotes to get it re-sprayed when...

...the cam belt snapped AND the head gasket went on my clio Crying or Very sad

Luckily my step sister works at The Nationwide Autocentre and has got me a discount so its only costing around £400 to fix it.

Then Im going to get a loan and do the car up cus I'm fed up of tying to save and do it bit by bit.

Anyway, hope ur all ok Very Happy

this is why you always change a belt on a new car unless theres PROOF of a recent change.

bad luck though!

I still haven't changed the belt on my chammy, working on the assumption it was done with the headgasket, which was allegedly done just before I bought it Embarassed

Do it later yeah

docs old 25 quid hatch which sat for a year still hasn't had the belt changed and its still going.

The exec needs one as does the hatch, the hatch will get it when the engines out.

True, it still goes on.

I think it was done about 20K ago according to the service book. TBH that dont mean anything as they dont have registrations on the books.

How good is the tensioner on the energy? No idea how old the one is installed at the moment but i didn't bother replacing it on my last car last time i changed the cambelt. Tempted to this time but it seemed ok when i removed it to do the water pump.

IMO your belt broke because of the waterpump blondie.

I've had 2 1.4 19's and both times the belt snapped because the waterpump was pissing boiling water over it.

fortunatly the 16v's that I've had have been better in that respect.
