I have bought a non-runner 1998 Scenic 2000cc petrol auto. It turns over but has no spark. There is a yellow warning light with a zig-zag flashing on the dash - perhaps a faulty immobiliser?

The central locking doesn't work, either from the key or the button on the dash. The red immobiliser light doesn't come on at all. The red light in the key flashes OK. All other elec things work except the drivers window.

It had a flat battery which I have charged up and it turns the motor over.
I have also tried jump starting from another car. I have another running 98 Scenic to swap bits over. I have checked fuses and relays under bonnet but there are more relays inside with the fuses I think? The reciever in the roof looks OK - no water in it from the aerial.

Any good starting places for swapping things over? Connections to check?

Cheers

could be because you took the battery out the ECU needs resetting, the yellow light is engine management light so i think the best bet is to reset the ECU, unfortunately i dont know how to do this youll have to ask the ECU guru wicked neo drop him a pm he'll mail ya bk soonish

Hi

Thanks for the quick answers. I had read the Plip Key Re-Synching thing but it says my immobiliser light will flash quickly if I try to start the car. Mine doesn't flash at all so I wondered if I have a different problem. Also the central locking button inside doesn't unlock the doors.

I wll try it though - sound like I need to do battle with my local dealer to get the code!

Thanks

Graeme

sounds like you have a wiring issue as well i fthe interior locking button doesn't work.

Check the fuses first.

Thanks folk,

It was a 5 amp fuse in the fuse box inside the car. Engine fired up straight away.

Unfortunately the car didn't go anywhere - turns out the auto is knackered. Only goes backwards. It will be the drum stuffed - same as my other one.

Cheers

Great site. I had a couple of R4's years ago - they are very rare in NZ.
