on my chamade 16v the front struts are 2 different types (1 a 16v the other is a non 16v) and i cant seem to source a decent set of the real mc coy at the moment but want to get the car mot ed and put on road asap, got 2 questions here

1-would the different struts fail mot ???

2-would they cause running problems if i decide to drive the car with them on till i can get a set of front struts??

cheers

i would have thought no to both...

handling wont be optimal, but just tootling to the garage and back would be fine...afterall u drove it home didnt u.

of course this is providing they are in good nick...

it will fail, stick the SPI's on to pass.

handling won't be very good.

is the spring connected to the strut or does the strut slide out after undoing all the bolts ?
and a really stupid question as well Laughing does the car not collapse when i put the wheel back on after taking the strut on the SPI out ?

leave it on axle stands, the spring is connected to the strut, if you dont undo the big nut the spring will stay with the strut. just change the complete spring and strut, it saves the hassle of using spring compressors etc.

the stands are the only thing of use the trolley jack liek every jack I get doesn;t jack the car up or if it does its a race to get the stands under before its back on the ground

haha Chris, well . . .since lowering the front of the car i cant get the trolly jack under the sills LOL!

so the good old standard renault jack comes to good use in getting the car up to a height where i can then get the trolly jack under.

lol mals and it was not to chav it up that i did the front springs, i had a cracked spring and a cracked top mount so i changed the mount and the springs and the lowering springs were cheaper than the OE springs and its not an over the top drop, just -35mm.

hmmmm thinking about it, it could be chavish as i was too much of a skinflint to pay the extra £10 for the OE springs, ahhh well, time to get some lexarse rear lights, a meccano spoiler and some under car neons i think . . . .
